I am sure someone has worked out what is the most profitable coin to mine at the moment

If they would like to share I wish to know...

1 What coin produces the highest fiat value per month at current prices and difficulty  ie coins mined x fiat value -less cost of mining

2 What coins produce the most value in fiat verses cost of hardware?

I understand the type of rig used will mean varying results so if it can be based on an a 7970 sapphire which is what I have AND any alternative rig as I have been told some coins do not require high GPU hash rates.

Any info greatly appreciated

you really need a site which shows this in real-time since obviously there is no single answer to this question - it varies second by second.

Something like http://dustcoin.com/mining or http://www.coinchoose.com/ - probably several other sites.

>>  what is the best virtual currency

Never heard of a "virtual currency".  What is that?

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

and “virtual currency,” which is a medium of exchange that operates like a currency in some environments, but does not have all the attributes of real currency. The Guidance specifically addresses the regulatory treatment of “convertible virtual currency” and the “users,” “exchangers,” and “administrators” of convertible virtual currencies.

Part of the issue is the main currencies that are readily available to be exchanged into fiat are BTC and LTC.  BTC has a much broader market for the conversion.  As a result, sites like mine focus on which currency, when mined, will lead to the most in these two currencies.

Just concentrate on Bitcoin, it is still the best, whatever other currencies, you still need to convert to Bitcoin.

Thanks for the link.  I still don't like Bitcoin being categorized as Virtual, it's real as the blockchain on a drive, but at least you didn't dream up the name Smiley.

And how do they plan on enforcing these distinctions?  Roll Eyes

Dear Sam.

I understand your point and agree that "virtual" implies something that is not real and actually it is very real.

The issue seems to be what the US decides is a currency as defined under their laws (which they change to suit themselves when they wish) and what others , particularly those in this community and hopefully the majority of the population eventually, decide to accept as currency .

If a group of people agree that this is a currency then it certainly is for them and they can use it as such whatever the law may say. Unfortunately they cannot call upon the laws of the USA to enforce anything should things go wrong. As long as they are aware and accept that then everything is fine.

When there are enough people using it the law will probably change to recognize it as a currency with all the protection that the law currently provides for the US dollar but it will be regulated. However, I thought that regulation is what the concept of bitcoin was trying to avoid and if that is the case then it will always be outside the law because anything (of size) they cant regulate they will surely make illegal. If it is destined to be outside the law then mass adoption in everyday commerce will probably be very difficult if not impossible.

I would suggest that some type of compromise will be needed in order to further the cause of mass adoption and would be happy to hear others opinions on this as it is critical to how fast and how big Bitcoin can grow.

I also created a site a couple weeks ago which shows those values plus what your earnings would be with your current hash rate.  Also shows some historical info for the coins too- www.WhereToMine.com
Let me know if you find it helpful and/or any features you'd like to see on it.
