I'm new to bitcoin mining. The Antminer S9 seems to be a good box. But is it worth paying a high price on eBay or just wait for their next shipment batch in november for lower price?? Will they ship enough units for the demand?

First read Bitcoin Mining 101.
In short miners of ANY sort are power hungry - all of which translates directly into heat - and they are LOUD. Can you deal with that?

Only YOU can make that decision because only YOU know your financial situation, power costs, willingness for financial risk etc.

Other folk's opinions are just that - opinions based on their situations and not yours.

As for
Quote
Will they ship enough units for the demand?
Bitmain, Canaan (Avalons) and the other miner makers sell out their limited production runs very quickly. They ship all they can make as fast as they can be made. Main problem is the ASIC chip availability from TSMC who is the Foundry that Bitmain, Canaan, and Bitfury use to produce their chips. Mining chips are Boutique items and are not made in anywhere near Mass-Market Consumer-electronics quantities.

In ebay you can close your eyes and can buy the miner from there. eBay reserve a rights to send the ordered product to their customer. I knew you will be able to get the miner there but the cost would more than you find the direct bitmain. Since bitmain is not active to transfer their products now. You can go with the eBay reseller without any issue.

It's very relevant. BTC profitability has just cratered due to Diff increase. Sub $10.00 per day for the S-9. Anyone buying ASIC miners from resellers these days has NO hope of making money. Well, for at least a year or more. If you pay the release price you at least stand a chance. Resellers today are just another form of scammer. Gouging people knowing full well that these machines will not recoup the costs of their sales. Think about it. If the machine was going to make money mining, why would all these thieves....er....I mean...."resellers" be selling them???

You only live once....if you do it right, once is enough.

while there is some truth to what you are saying, i would comment:

whenever you guys read something like this, go and buy more asics.

please tell me another Investment to roi in 3-6 month?

its very true it always depends on your Situation.
most People will be happier if they just buy some currency instead of miner.

double Price Reseller? well.. opportunity.

now the op question. shipping is not the Problem.
its the pre-order, 2-3 month wait. Money locked.
if you can handle that then you should be golden.

in case of x11, that ship has sailed.
btc is on the low end too,
gpu are not very profitable also.

waiting for the next opportunity...

the BCC/BCH  vs BTC issue

and  coin prices

are 2 reasons  of many that  may mean  buying now is terrible or good or neutral.

I order 1 miner for dec delivery.

But the devil is in the details. The ROI everyone is so fond of talking about is ALWAYS based on current calculators. These calculators are virtually ALWAYs wrong by the very nature of their formulas. They show insane profit margins which drive more people to buy the units, which in turn drives the hashing on the network up. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. The only thing that can correct this spiral is for profitability to go negative. Which it will. It's a verifiable certainty. The only survivors will be those who maintained discipline and managed their costs. If you're paying >.07 Kw for electricity and you bought ASIC servers from resellers at double or more of release price, your NOT gonna be profitable. End of story.

You only live once....if you do it right, once is enough.

I find it strange that nobody has mentioned that if you buy from a reseller you do not get warranty support. With the questionable track record of the S9 I personally think that is a huge risk.

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.

Nobody has any idea what BTC will be in 2018, the only sure thing is the difficulty will increase, and so will the hashpower. YMMV

Edit, SHA-256 coins will still be coming out. If you want to speculate, I would use the S9 for that instead.

When I first started mining, I didn't believe in the ROI or shit like that either. I always though there was some way to get rich quick mining. After a year of doing this (will be my second this december). I can assure you that they are right, Miners make at most 50% profit annually from Mining. You may make some bonus bucks if you decide to QUIT mining and sell all your gear at the right time. But if you're in it for the long run, theres no way to make more. Even with the price increase this past year, the diff increase forces you to turn over machines in the 10k+ range every month and you will be forced to liquidate some assets or borrow money to bring new miners in. Its a hard business, but it does have upsides, being part of a new financial revolution is one.

Is it even worth it to get something that's only 13.5 TH? Why not a D3 Dash miner with better* ROI?

only "13.5 Th/s?? Seriously? In 4-5 days the price to profitability will be equal. The SHA256 miners are the bell weather. That's your yardstick for where this is ALL going.
