Very interesting, but it probably has already been priced it, because regular users are the last to get the rumors and news. But in the long run it might give Bitcoin a good bump as this is what we are all waiting for - more and more companies to start accepting it, especially the big and popular ones.

Well you can't really compare number of people using Steam and Amazon. I believe that they do want to accept Bitcoin at some point but just image legal stuff that they are required to do, especially in the US

the chances of this news being true are really dim.
the sources are not reliable and they are mostly making a guess. they don't have real proof. for example back when Steam started accepting bitcoin, everyone was speculating like this too but the difference was that by that time we had some small proof (Valve email to some Steam game devs telling them about bitcoin).

my speculation is that Amazon will eventually accept bitcoin. if it isn't this October it will be pretty soon. they will be left behind if they don't.

That fake news created a lot of buzz all because if Amazon would finally get into the Bitcoin bandwagon then it can really be a big news and a big boos to Bitcoin as it can push the coin to be a utilized currency in everyday commerce and not just a store of value and a vehicle of speculation like it is now.

Sure this would be nice in terms of bitcoin mass adoption or as a support to BTC in general.
But lets be realistic: to do business or especially a trade business like amazon does BTC at the moment is way too volatile.
If there are 20% swings in value compared to any fiat currency in one day it would be really hard for amazon to calculate their business.
Furthermore there are other problems that are not really solved at the moment, ie the number of transactions in a given timeframe or even legal issues.
So imo its a long way for bitcoin to get there.

The news articles that popped up were indeed fake, but apparently, not everyone is realizing that yet.... Other than that, the volatility shouldn't be a concern for any merchant considering to accept Bitcoin as payment option. The far majority of the merchants accepting Bitcoin do that through a third party payment processor -- this service takes care of the entire process, and pays merchants in fiat the next business day. Merchants do have the option to keep a certain percentage of their sales in Bitcoin, but for obvious reasons, this option doesn't experience much use. Especially not when it comes to non tech related merchants.

When the news filtered the airwaves some weeks back, I was initially on the pessimist side because the same several news has happened neither would the party concerned confirm it nor would will see the implementation but with date attached to it now, I am likely to believe it to a large extent but at the same time, there is a long period between now and on the 26th which means things can still change. that is a non problem because even if Amazon starts accepting bitcoin there won't be a huge rise in the number of transactions per day. the adoption is always a slow process. there may be some increase at first but it won't go from current 230K to 1 million tx/day all of a sudden. it may take a year to get there and with SegWit and hopefully LN some of this can be covered.
although i don't see a need for 1 million tx/sec even in a year.
