This would be good news for bitcoin's name. First, it'd throw money laundering schemes like purse.io out of the window and secondly would give massive PR to bitcoin and help many more people get informed about it. However, I don't quite think that the source is anything more than speculation. Perhaps in our dreams.  Roll Eyes

Great, I'd finally be able to spend my money locally on some goods. Until now I kept hearing about all those US chains accepting BTC, but there were no big EU operating companies among them. Let's hope they confirm the news.

This would be good news for bitcoin's name. First, it'd throw money laundering schemes like purse.io out of the window and secondly would give massive PR to bitcoin and help many more people get informed about it. However, I don't quite think that the source is anything more than speculation. Perhaps in our dreams.  Roll Eyes

The source seems to be legit. The question is whether they confirm the news or not. There's still a month to go, anything can happen.

I think exactly this top news of today has moved bitcoin to rise up to 3800$. I saw this news during the day in many threads. I think it's break for Amazon. I hope another giants of internet shopping such as Aliexpress and eBay will fallow this example, cause of I buy on them, but never on Amazon due to high prices for delivery in my country (Serbia).

Obviously, Amazon is a big deal with more than ! million customers, more people will spend bitcoin directly to purchase some goods from Amazon.
yet Google just started, Ebay and PayPal already do, countries like Japan and Russia officially recognize bitcoin as legal payment – it really is only a matter of time before Amazon follows suit. Soon or later, in this year or next year, more business and companies will accept bitcoin payment, yes, it just time matter. Bitcoin has several advantages compare than traditional payment method, and every commerce have to consider to expand their payment method including bitcoin or they will miss the opportunity.

Yes, its the news of the day that brought bitcoin closer to $4000 once more. Its welcoming news since Amazon is the biggest retailer out there. Bitcoin can reach millions of Amazon users worldwide. So forget about China, next month when this is confirmed by themselves we may see $5000 again. Its just really a matter of time before any of the big boys in the internet would start accepting bitcoin as payment method. Although it will vary from where you from, but still this is a step closer to the global adoption that we have been waiting to happen for the longest time.

Rumors. If that was true then we should see bitcoin shoot to $10,000 right now. I also speculate that big companies like Amazon will only accept bitcoin if it was a regulated currency, and that is the problem right now. Some might follow China in banning it.

Check their source of info though! It is from someone who just speculated this!

Their "source":
https://allthepics.net/image/KoNqw

But everyone on this forum that uses Amazon should contact them and ask them if they accept Bitcoin. We know they do not, but this they will take this request as a "Feature Request" and send it up to the request department.

That's more like it. I think we will go up again after the continous FUDs from oppositions. It shook all non believers causing bitcoin to crash. It's good to see other companies that are optimistic about accepting bitcoin. I've been waiting for this. Actually you can buy Amazon GCs with bitcoin but not directly. Now we can buy at Amazon directly. Shops that accepts bitcoin is rare to see at the internet. Amazon is a big company. So i hope it attracts other shops to accept bitcoin as a way of payments.

This is very good news. But surely, some time from now, governments across the world will be scrambling to get payment data from Amazon. Just like they did with the Bitcoin exchanges.

I would like to know what the reputation of these sources is. I do not ever go into any crypto-specific sites to obtain information or news on Bitcoin or any other crypto-currency, so I am not sure that any of this can be trusted. If this happens to be true, however, it is truly a huge step for Bitcoin as Amazon is one of the biggest online retailers on the web and would potentially increase Bitcoin knowledge to the general public by a good bunch. If it is just a rumor, then services such as Purse.io would still work for purposes of buying products from Amazon with bitcoins.

The signature campaign posters adding useless redundant fluff to their posts to reach their minimum word count are lowering my IQ.

I am not buying it sorry. Unless I don't read an official statement from Jeff The Bezos I will not consider this rumour true. We have seen many attempts like these in the past and I don't believe sources who read that on a newsletter.
It looks like pure market manipulation to me.....

Well, I just read this news.

Amazon Will not Accept Bitcoin Payments Anytime Soon
A lot of people are excited about the news involving Amazon and Bitcoin payments. Some sources claim the company will enable cryptocurrency payments soon While that is an interesting opinion, it is also highly unlikely that will happen. In fact, Amazon shows no interest in any additional payment methods right now. It would be an interesting development if true, though.

It's a great bit of news if true, but as long as there isn't a trustworthy source confirming this, I don't add any value to this. Nowadays there is a huge influx of articles pretending something that they can't back up with facts, and this article may definitely be one of them. I remember back in the days how people were dreaming about Amazon to accept Bitcoin, because if that would happen, this market would literally explode in value. Cheesy I will only believe this if Amazon confirms it and ends up implementing Bitcoin as payment option - words hold zero value, actions do.

These are great new for bitcoin users. If this actually happens, and it looks like it should because the source looks good, it will definitely make the price go up a lot. Also it will be a great way to "promote" bitcoin, since all the users that use amazon and don't know bitcoin, will see that option and will get to know bitcoin and will probably adopt it.

Also I see no problem with this point raised in the article:

"These tech giants know this and are beginning to intertwine themselves into the blockchain process by becoming covert intermediaries that will be able to monitor and ultimately affect all digital transactions"

I mean, yes this is true, but this is just an option. People can choose to use bitcoin through amazon, or they can look for decentralized markets that allow people to buy stuff as well. I don't think this is a problem, and I really think these are great new for BTC.

Accepting bitcoin (or altcoins) is a matter of time in my opinion for the big companies which didn't accept Bitcoin yet. The only thing that matters is the number of people using the selected cryptocurrencies and its financial impact.

It's decent news, but people shouldn't expect the price to react on this -- merchant adoption is no longer a price driver. I am not an Amazon user at all, but there is no way anyone can deny their large market share and dominance. At the end of the day, even though they might be accepting Bitcoin, everything will get dumped on the market by their third party payment processor. Only when merchants are going to hold a certain percentage of their Bitcoin sales, the Bitcoin price might end up reacting positively.

Only when merchants are going to hold a certain percentage of their Bitcoin sales, the Bitcoin price might end up reacting positively.
That would be an ideal situation, but unfortunately that's not something I see become reality when it comes to merchants without a crypto background or a CEO that is extremely bullish on Bitcoin.

Regular merchants don't see Bitcoin the way we see Bitcoin ~ for them it's just an optional payment method, and that's really it. And to be honest, I can't blame them for thinking like that.

They have zero interest in keeping some of the sales they generate through Bitcoin in their wallets for whatever reason ~ the volatility forms too much of an obstacle for them. I think we should forget about this, at least for now.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

Even if the news isn't accurate, other retailers will surely take notice and you can bet that Bitcoin will be mentioned in more than a few boardrooms this week as a result.

This makes bitcoin popular, and therefore expensive) But still I want it to be true. This will be an excellent reason for a sharp rise in the price of bitcoin in a short time

I disagree. Merchant adoption is a pretty big price driver when it comes to big merchants such as Amazon, which is the most popular online retailer in the west. The actual fact that they accept Bitcoin is not in and of itself a good cause for Bitcoin value to go up, since as you said, they would most likely be converting the bitcoin as soon as they get it, but the fact that it can become an option increases the popularity of the Bitcoin name which may interest more people and inherently give more value to the currency, since the general demand for it would go up. The actual price delta is arguable, but the effect would be very real regardless simply because of the promotion of its existence.

When I first heard about this news, I was very excited. However, cointelegraph has been stated that it's only "an unverified rumor"...  Sad
