Making your more secure is something which needs a lot of attention. I think you can easily secure your wallets. It is actually not a big deal. You need to keep on checking your wallet from time to time and you need to have record of the Bitcoins which are present in your wallet. Making backup will serve the purpose in a wonderful manner.

Just don't give your private key in someone you don't trust and provide security in the document where you saved your private keys. It easy to secure wallet offline , im not sure if its easy online so just be aware of all things you do and think before you act.

Try to keep your btc on cold wallet blockchain(where only you will have and know private key,wich need to send btc),this private key keep on paper-and if you use 1 time you have to generate new one immediately). Nobody will not steal without private key. what do you mean by "regular backups"?
these days almost all wallets are using Hierarchical Deterministic method (HD) which means you only save the seed or if they don't have seed like bitcoin core you just take a one time backup and it contains your master key in it. (this is as far as i know about core).
