infrared thermometer (pyrometer?    ) (thermometer gun with a laserpointer to point at where you want to measure)

4-6 inch distance at all measurements and I am measuring all over that stick. highest temp with the fan next to it was around 37°C now (27°C in my living room / 32°C+ outside in the shadow)

and the devices just disapear from lsusb. I have to reboot at that point...

Also, is 9 eruptor ok on this hub?

I have quickly saw that an eruptor was taking .5A hence you could only plug 8.

ok I kinda solved my problem.

I have removed 1 eruptor from my Anker hub. I have pluged the Anker hub in a USB2.0 port on my PC.

I have pluged eruptor #9 and #10 in a second USB hub.

With my 2 7970, I now have ~ 4.5 GH/s miner

Just an update about libusb in case anyone was wondering ...

Basically I'm just verifying (trying to get others to check also) that it is indeed the version of libusb that's the problem.
Upgrading libusb may resolve it ... but once I have verified if it is the cause I'll go with including the latest libusb in the cgminer directory to ensure people are using a working version

However, using Arch instead of Raspbian should solve the problem anyway since the latest Arch has a working libusb that passes my test code:

Those are difficult to get in Europe, I recently bought an Enermax USB Fan (which is not produced anymore...  ) on amazon.co.uk for about 22 Pounds..
Actually its much cheaper to DIY with an old 120mm PC fan + USB cable

I'm still waiting for someone to publish a Android App that uses CGminer/BFGminer for ASICs, till then I'll just have to fiddle about with ARM Linux and see if I can get that going. I already got BFGminer compiled/installed. Just waiting for my OTG cable to show up.

I'd get a Rasberry Pi but I'd feel it's not worth the investment as I can't figure out a use for it outside of a mining host, I only want a host to use at night when I'm not on my PC.

I got 2 more today (I now have 3 AMUs) to ensure my previous testing was working ... hotplugged them into my USB3.0 hub plugged into my RPi ... 3 mining no problem.

The main problem is libusb that a lot of distros seem to have a bad version of.

The actual version of libusb on RPi Arch works - which is what I'm using when I hotplugged in the 2 new ones I got today.

Minepeon for RPi uses Arch ... also here's a simple howto I wrote to setup Arch for cgminer: http://www.kano-kun.net/?p=87

IF cooling is an issue you could easily update fan AND add heat sinks.
Your idea probably saves cost and electric usage of 1.1 fans per 18-21 units.
I'm also thinking a slight gap between the HUBS may be beneficial...
