Hranilnica Lon has enabled the ability to purchase bitcoin with its classic automated teller machine (ATM) located in the company’s lobby. The Kranj-based bank believes it’s the first bank worldwide to implement bitcoin into a traditional ATM.

Hranilnica Lon bank is a financial banking products provider offering services to citizens based in Slovenia. The company founded in 1992 manages money market instruments for clients and has multiple locations. This week Lon’s Facebook page announced the implementation of bitcoin into the firm’s traditional ATM located in the Kranj headquarters front lobby.

While explaining the new ATM feature, the bank’s senior executive, Jake Vadnjal, unveiled the ATM to a swarm of Slovenian news reporters. During the video, the Hranilnica Lon executive cuts a ribbon tied to the machine and performs a transaction in front of the media’s cameras.

This can be good news for people who are based in Slovenia and who are interested with Bitcoin as they can now make a purchase conveniently through the ATM. Now, we are wishing that more and more of this type of an ATM can be deployed within the country so that adoption into Bitcoin can accelerate within Slovenia. I assumed that the government is giving a good treatment to cryptocurrency in this country and they should realize of the immense opportunity that this new revolution can be bringing into their citizens.

Long live Slovenia! Long live Bitcoin!

It's a decent first step towards making Bitcoin easily accessible for the everage joes. I quite like the fact that if you as average joe think that it's a good moment to enter the market, you just walk to your local ATM, inputs the amount you want to purchase Bitcoin with, and you get your 'paper wallet' containing your coins. If a bank in my country would do the same, it's even something I would advice people around me to make use of if they aren't willing to go through the hassle of signing up at an exchange and verify themselves which can take days, and in some cases even weeks. Initially such a service will cost you a higher than average fee, but that's all worth it considering the fact that you can obtain Bitcoin basically at any moment of the day if you so wish.
