Hi all,

Sorry if these questions have been asked before. I have searched for answers but have not found the specific answers I'm looking for.

1. I have a data cap of 30gb per month on my internet. Would Bitcoin exceed this, and how much data does Bitcoin need on a home PC?

2. Would it be OK to use a wallet on my iPad instead of my laptop? (I am concerned with security and I feel my iPad would be more secure due to Malware/spyware etc. which can be more prevalent/susceptible on PCs and laptops )

3. What are the best ways to back up Bitcoin in the event of hardware failure?

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to reading your replies!

1-3. You could use a web-wallet with compatible iOS or Android apps, visit coinbase.com for example.

1.  Before you start listening to all the people who tell you to rely on webwallets or other third party providers, consider using an SPV or lightweight Bitcoin wallet.  Electrum seems to be most commonly recommended, but there are other options as well depending on your preferred platform.  Simple Payment Verification means you don't have to worry about bandwidth at all, but as a tradeoff you may sacrifice a small amount of privacy.  But you'll be in complete control of your own keys, which is the most important part.

If you don't want SPV and prefer to opt for a full node, Bitcoin's current total blocksize is just over 130 gigabytes, so yes, you're going to exceed your 30GB cap by some margin if you want to get synchronised and up to date in one single hit.  Monthly usage will be even higher than that:  https://bitcoin.org/en/full-node#minimum-requirements

Quote
It’s common for full nodes on high-speed connections to use 200 gigabytes upload or more a month. Download usage is around 20 gigabytes a month

2.  I'm not a big fan of Apple, personally, but people generally speak favourably of Breadwallet.  Security largely depends on how you use your device and what precautions you take (I run with the NoScript browser extension, so javascript is disabled by default unless I specifically allow it to run on the particular website I'm on).  If you're not doing anything risky with your computer/tablet/phone/ etc (and have innocent browsing habits  Tongue ), any OS should be relatively safe.  As a general rule, most people are more likely to be scammed than hacked.  But webwallets and other websites that hold bitcoin get hacked quite often, so keep them on your own device(s).  Try to only do business with those you know and trust.

3.  Some people swear by paper wallets, but I'd only go with those if you have a safe to keep them in.  Otherwise, securely passworded (or better yet, passphrases with lots of words and non-words) backups in cold storage (not connected to the internet).  Not just one or two.  Lots of backups.  And then store those backups somewhere relatively secure as well.

I think 30 GB internet is enough for bitcoin to start. And on PC it also hold a very little space, I am not exactly sure but if you have core i 3 or five then it is ok. And the rest is your choice how and where can you hold your bitcoin much safer, it is all about the controllers I think.

So be confident and start investing gin bitcoin. Propel have earned a lot of money till date and you are still thinking something else.

No bitcoin can't exceed that 30gb data . It is enough for 1 month to use in bitcoin even 10gb is enough also. and also it depends on you what device you want to use for your wallet . Must pick the most safier and secure device.
Well for the best ways to backup btc i suggest to have a back up on your mobile devices instead of pc . Cuase we all know that  sometimes our pc/laptop sunddenly fail because of hardware failure or etc, so its also better to have backup on your other device.

1. 30gb data cap is enough for you to have all jobs or investments that are related with bitcoin. Unless you will different use for it (download files, etc)

2. If you have laptop then I would suggest to use it primarily. But iPad is fine. I am also using my phone for bitcoin related stuff like my bitcoin wallet but it's an android phone.

3. To be honest, I can suggest any for this. But to tell my side, I only use web based wallet. But as I checked here in bitcointalk it's also not safe. If you will ask those who have been in crypto for many years and with huge money in bitcoin, they have several ways how to secure it. But for me web based is already fine.

I don't understand what you are saying. Are you trying to run on full node with bitcoin core wallet? Am i right? If yes, i don't think 30gb of bandwidth is enough to run on full node. You don't have to run on full node since a lot of wallets are available all over the internet. Choose Mycelium or Electrum as your bitcoin wallet or any offline wallets. They lightweight and you don't have to run on full node because it takes a lot of bandwidth and of course expensive way to keep your bitcoin.

Okay, sorry I just answered your question number 1. I access bitcoin using google chrom. I think the 30gb data is enough to open bitcoin for a month.
