Question: Would you buy a 16 GPU prebuilt rackmount mining rig?
Shut up and take my money!
Yes, but offer a barebones option (without GPUs) as well.
Maybe. . . Tell me more.
No thanks. I prefer to build my own.

I've been mining ETH and recently ZEC on some typical custom built 6 GPU rigs and was wondering:
Now that parts are available to make such a thing viable, would anyone like to buy a prebuilt 16 GPU rig? they would effectively look and function like the ones pictured here:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi7xLb06dLWAhVo2oMKHehFDFoQjRwIBw&url=https%3A%2F%2F[Suspicious link removed]%3Ftopic%3D1690052.0&psig=AOvVaw0E8XMGUR1tfVLM7tACCi8T&ust=1507064233478362, only on steroids.

The design is this: 16 GPUs crammed inside of a 4U form factor custom-built rackmount chassis. Possible hashrates include 500MH/s+ ETH per server. [!!!]
What are your thoughts?
Please vote and comment on your reasoning!! Why did you vote the way you did? Let me know!

Interesting, but I'm not sure how you are fitting 16 GPU's into 4U  Huh

It's hard enough fitting 7 x blower style cards.

More information and pictures please Smiley

Sadly this isn't something that I can provide pictures on, as it is currently in its prototyping stage.

It's a combination of careful use of space and proper airflow.

Cost will be a big thing. Today I can build a 16 RX 570/580 card rig with open air frame for $3500-$4000. IDK that you could build it, market it and still have margins in it.

Could you link a page you can buy 16 RX570 or RX580 for less than 3500-4000$ ? Smiley
I would buy 10 of those rigs from you right now for 3500$ - 4000$ / each
Can you provide us some details about those 16x RX 570-580 builds for 3500-4000$ please Smiley with detailed parts/price as of today October 3 -2017 ?

16 GPUs in a 4U rackmount may look good, but have you considered about ventilation yet?
I think it could be hard, I'm willing to purchase if its price around 4800$ - 5000$ and each card temperature should be less than 73C.

I said build not buy. The RX 570/580 can be found in the USA specialty stores for ~ $220-$230. If to buy in bulk you can easily get them for that price if not less by buying at least 5000 units.
$150 server PSU + Pico PSU. $25 plastic open mount rack and zip ties at Lowe's. $100 cheap Chinese mining board with riser CPU. $150 for RAM, CPU and SSD.

I voted "build my own", the main reason is I have to design my own mining rig according to my space required.

In my experience, I would not recommend  building rigs with more than 4-6 gpus. Sometimes rigs have problems and stop working. I rather have 2-3 rigs (additional cost for MB&other, but...) and if some of them will stop mining due to hardware or software problems my other rigs will be ok.

Entertain us all and draw something on the back of a napkin.
The amount of GPU's you are proposing in a 4U closed chassis is huge, but you've not given us the slightest amount of technical detail.

Supermicro manages to fit 10 x blower style cards in a 4-4.5U chassis
https://www.servethehome.com/deeplearning11-10x-nvidia-gtx-1080-ti-single-root-deep-learning-server-part-1/

Tyan has fit 4 x GPU's into a 1U and if you were to run 4 of them you'd hit the magic 16 GPU's in 4U of space.
But that is using a deep chassis with 4 x PSU's, motherboard, CPU, ram, etc.
https://www.servethehome.com/tyan-thunder-hx-ga88-b5631-server-review-4x-gpu-1u/

I have built a 4U chassis with room for 8 blower cards. a 2400W delta PSU, motherboard/cpu/ram/etc, and I can't think of a way to fit 8 more GPU's in there.

I would vote yes for this, sounds like a beast of a machine. How much would something like this run in terms of $$?

I would if the price was reasonable. Also depends on the type of hardware being used.

It totally depends on their pricing. Building a rackmount machine yourself is a bit troublesome, but not completely out of reach. I personally price my effort of procuring components, building, testing as $500. If their pricing is below the purchase cost of components + 500USD, I would go for it.

In America the prices are a bit lower than elsewhere but not to this extent. I think OP just saw a Scam site or this website sells GPU working in the mining 1-2 years. I do think that mining on a GPU is a thing of the past. I absolutely do not see economic benefit to do it now. As soon as people will understand the price of the GPU should be reduced. This is the actual price you call, but demand is still too high to be able to buy the GPU at reasonable prices.

I'd put it in the neighborhood of $9K-$10K, fully loaded with ~500MH/s, being a little bit liberal, and accounting for shipping.

Such a wide margin is required at this point. Too many variables to nail down.

The price does seem a little bit high, but remember- this is a 16 GPU rig, with retail GPU prices. if I were to get some kind of volume i think i could get the prices down by maybe as much as $1K, possibly $2K.

Hardware is in the works, but you can count on good quality components.

Its a great idea to build something like you planning to do . The only problem is with current coin/fiat exchange rate and the difficulty getting higher .

If everything stay the same , the ROI for your 9000$ build will be around 500 days with today price/difficulty calculated with today numbers and around 2000 watts of power draw with 0.1$/kwh.  ( 500MH/s on ETH )

If you selling it for $10K dollar, the ROI will be around 560 days ... This is what might be going to keep back a lot of ppl to invest $10k for a single GPU miner .

Today for $9K (3x $2900=8700$), you can buy 3x Pandaminer B3 Plus with a total hashrate of 3x220MH/s = 660MH/s on ETH

I voted " Maybe. . . Tell me more. " Smiley
