I think that if you interested in serious relationship it's better to meet in reality as soon as possible. It's ok to spend couple days/weeks online, but than meet the person before imagination will create some different picture of the person. I know a lot of couples who started their communication online.

I think online dating is very helpful for those people who lack confidence to come up to an opposite sex and start a conversation. Now, thanks to software editing technology, anyone who knows how to use a computer can self-tamper and edit make their photos become more beautiful, more glitter. An overweight person can become skinny, a black person and a nasty ugly person can become a baby like a baby ... just click on an icon in the photo editor. The need to see the best picture possible, even if it's beautiful, is not true, in my opinion the normal need of anyone.

Thus, the love of couples through images sent over the internet can make couples feel shocked when they first meet.
