So I got a Nano S.  Since I'm new to it I let it pick the 24 seed words but I'm thinking about trying to pick my own to make it easier to memorize.  Yes yes I'm aware that I can't make it too simple, duh.  But I can envision worst case scenarios where I may be traveling and my Nano gets lost or stolen or broken and it's unlikely I'll have my seed list with me.  Way better to keep it in my head.  Of course there then are issues of how you are going to set up a new wallet but that's a separate problem.  The first problem is simply having the seed words.

So who has done that?   How difficult was it to come up with something?  I know the structure matters so it may not even be very practical.

It's quite difficult to pick your own and match the protocols. There are two solutions I see for you:
1. Generate a seed, learn it or put it in an encrypted format on your phone. I learnt a 12 word seed phrase in a few days after just inputting it a few times.
2. Cycle through seeds it generates and find one you'll think you'll remember (like mine has an oxymoron in it so it's a bit easier to remember). Just learn like 5 words a day and put it together.

It would be quite difficult to pick your own set of 24 words... Given that not every combination of words actually generates a "valid" phrase.

Have a play with https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/ generate a random 24 word phrase... and try changing the words around... or replace words with other BIP39 words... you'll get an idea for how "difficult" it is to actually make a valid phrase.

The whole idea of the words was not to make it easier to memorise as such, but to represent the seed in such a way that it reduces transcription errors and also provides a small amount of error checking.
