well the mining can't use the CPU/GPU at 100% when gaming and vice versa--of course hashrate will drop.

Yes, you can picture it as mining and gaming each using a percent of your GPU's cabability.

That being said, not all games and coins are the same.  For example, a 3D shooter will affect your graphics card more than an simpler RTS game with older graphics.

The hashrate drops even by simply moving the mouse.

WIth gaming, I am surprised you haven't ran out of memory.

Play on your integrate gpu if you have it on your processor, and mine on your external gpu at same time and you don`t have droping hashrate  Cheesy

Of course, the game is utilising the same graphics card with same specs and therefore the hashrate will drop. When you game the game doesn't use processing power that comes out of nowhere - of course it must come from the GPU/CPU that is also mining in the process. They fight over the same resources with even more load, therefore your framerate and mining speed will drop.

but there is a trick, you MAY still mine and play all your favourites games in case if you have more then ONE videocard
then it is easy, on one VGA card you will continue to mine, while playing on another. no problems

also, there is another option - choose a game which is running great on integrated VGA - like Quake 3 Arena or CS 1.6  Roll Eyes Cool

and there is one more option! )) you have to build separate mining farming machine and mine there. while you'll be playing on you prime PC. ( oh, come on, who I'm trying to fool - you'll be mining on that PC as well)

It is normal that the hashrate drops sometimes even massively when playing, however if you have a rig with 6 video cards, you can disable the first video card from your miner ,Claymore, EWBF or Nicehash and keep it for gaming and while you are gaming you can mine with the other video cards that you have installed on your system.

Lately I am playing PS2 games through emulator and I disable my first video card when playing and let all others mine during my gameplay session which is quite long as I play RPG games.

If you want to do both, depending on your GPU, you can tweak various settings such as power, memory/gpu clocks etc to get more out of your GPU and configure your miner to limit the hash rate
