I'm not so sure that this may be possible in the short term, because the bitcoin ecosystem still has to overcome great challenges to overcome popular and efficient payment systems like PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, Western Union, etc.

But it is clear that the potential of bitcoin is much larger than those systems and perhaps over time we may see strong competition between bitcoin and those companies.

Though I think Bitcoin is a great currency, but the fluctuation rate nowadays make it more like a investment tool.
For instance, I'm running a studio right now, sometime I encourage clients to pay with Bitcoin.
We have projects that clients will pay us weekly, and instead of buying Bitcoin at the time to make payment, they're more interested in buying more Bitcoin at a time and spend them on weekly basis.
But the fluctuation rate always makes them concerned, as they may (or may not) need to pay more, which is bad for business.
