Bitcoin Gold No Premine

The Bitcoin Gold developers decided to include a premine at: https://github.com/BTCGPU/BTCGPU

Therefore, I created an alternate client that removes the premine.

Bitcoin Gold (no premine) Client:
https://github.com/realBitcoinGold/BTCGPU

You can see the change here:
https://github.com/realBitcoinGold/BTCGPU/commit/623ec59bb35bd4f20031506a4314e45a1d53fa6f

It will be up to the miners to decide what client to use.  If 51% of miners use the no-premine client, there will be no premine for Bitcoin Gold.

FAQ

Q: Is this a fork of Bitcoin Gold?
A: No, it is an alternative client.  If 51%+ (majority) of miners use the no-premine chain, there will be no premine.  If the majority of miners want a premine, they can use the premine chain and get a premine.

Q: Why should miners want a premine in Bitcoin Gold?
A: Use the premine chain if you want developers to get a premine.  Maybe it will incentivize them to work on the chain and make it more valuable.

Q: What if I try to mine blocks with the no-premine client, but more mining power wants a premine?
A: Your mined blocks will be invalid and forked off the main chain.  The same is true if you try mining with the pre-mine chain and the majority wants no-premine.

This is nice and all but they already have pool operators involved who will likely run the premined version so blocks will be found there - which is the deciding factor here (longest chain, not node count).

If you seriously want to throw a wrench into it and remove the premine it will take much more effort than changing a line, you'd need to convince pool operators, miners, exchanges, etc.

Not your keys, not your coins!

What is the actual purpose of this thread? Everyone knows Bitcoin gold will not get much attention apart from getting free coins to dump if there are suckers to buy it.

I'm not a miner.  It's up to miners to decide if they want to convince pool operators or not.

Miners vote with their GPU power, as they should.  I just want to help give miners a choice.

I like the concept of giving users another option.  Are there any developers that can review this code and validate it?

The crypto world is getting fucked actually with these forks around the corner every single month now (soon will be that way & in that rate).

Everyone wanna take a piece of the cake BUT they are ruining this game even if they didn't mean that (which i truly doubt).

From now on will be hearing of forks of those who forked a previous coin !!!

Started with BTC = Bitcoincash
Bitcoincash = something else...

Imagine what will happen next, unlimited forks of forked coins...

I do not quite understand, due to what your algorithm will gain popularity? After all, fork developers will propose their option - and it will be adopted a priori.

It will be up to the miners.  I've announced it on the Bitcoin Gold Slack channel and here.
I don't even see another thread for Bitcoin Gold here.

Also, it will be easy for someone to choose a client with a burst of Nicehash.

well they are using Equihash, so how hard is it to use what Zcash has already done--not like they are recreating the wheel.  Even the same Equihash miners will work for Bitcoin Gold.  Instead of a premine they could take a certain percentage of the block reward for every coin mined--like Zcash did.

No premine is a wonderful development, but 3rd parties reviewing the code will be great.

A client which may fork a non-existing (yet) network. wow.
A lot if rumors that btcg is a scam, and without a premine what interest will devs have to support the network? Zero!

I would love to help raise awareness for this. It will be a powerful message to groups that try to wrestle control over bitcoin. It's a lot harder than they think.

I got the qt wallet client running on linux with low connections, after get the original chain data onloaded it may be possible to start moving some more blocks, pools should follow soon after for either this version or the original proposal. My node ip is 118.172.109.106.

Running a Bitcoin Gold node from Network Backup

Download a full client from the latest version of Bitcoin Core

Load a network copy (bootstrap.dat) to decrease syncing time or wait until client is fully in sync with the main network.

Compile and run Bitcoin Gold (Bitcoin-qt) from a terminal prompt on Ubuntu OS or virtual machine with Linux installed (See build-unix.md, libsodium 1.0.14 to solve dependency issues).

Backup network data from the main chain using the option -datadir=(Bitcoin data) or copying folder contents into the Bitcoin Gold data directory, wait for blocks to fully load from file.

Code:
bitcoin-qt -datadir=<source folder directory> -daemon -rpcport=8332

Invalidate block of the first block on the mainchain after the hard fork to switch to the Bitcoin Gold network (block 491408).

Code:
bgold-cli invalidateblock 0000000000000000002ac644c9ba8ac3be966276fb7fc8f3baa1a3b9bdc615f1

This solo mining guide to generate to a specific address or the daemon's address should work for basic mining, can read more here:
