Hello everyone,

First of, it's seems money is not credited on Bitstamp on Monday, which is why no deposits arrived there (and maybe why their price lag behind even BTC-E?).

However tomorrow the problem should be solved for good, as we have been very aggressive this time (and will finally get ahead of the "race" for deposits).

As announced, margin trading is now off, because of the volatility and at least until we get our upgrade done.

We don't like performing an upgrade with such a turmoil, but I believe we don't have a choice, as you are probably realising now.

Thank you all and have a good day
Raphael

Date: November 18th, which is either yesterday or the day before yesterday depending on your time zone. The announcement was done...

Yep, I read that (even though I think doing your announcements in a bitcointalk thread but not on your website is insufficient)... Margin trade was deactivated, closed my open margin soon after. At some point the scheduled downtime happened (fine) and margin trading was on again. The statement "at least until we get our upgrade done" means that margin trading will not be active again when the upgrade is still not finished. Seeing the margin back on again I concluded that the upgrade had been finished, too. Apparently this wasn't true... Angry

Dear Customers

as stated several times, our servers experience a growing traffic.
Several days ago we took the decision to migrate to a new network approach called clustering.
The whole setup took a while and during this time our traffic kept increasing exponentially.
Waiting for the market to stabilize before moving to the new system wouldn't make much sense as we don't know if the market will stabilize and when ( it might go like a yoyo for weeks ) and, as our traffic keeps increasing we need to take action.
Yesterday we had about 2 hours of maintenance during which we couldn't complete the migration.
Due to market instability we decided to resume trading, in order to avoid mayor losses.
Today we tried again and the downtime was longer, about 3 hours something if I'm correct (it seemed like a century to us ).
As the new system was experiencing some slowness, we decided to resume the old one and fine tune it a little more.
So here we are, tired and frustrated, but not tamed.
We now go to sleep (it's 1 a.m. EU time) and we will resume operations tomorrow.
Tomorrow we will probably experience some down time again (it is not certain but there is a possibility until the system has completely migrated).
My personal suggestion to all traders and to everyone that has a grain of salt in his head and is not completely blinded by greediness yet, is the following:

- As volatility is high and we might have some downtime do NOT take leveraged positions until the move has been completed.
The dangers in this moment outpace by far the rewards
Spend time with your family, go for a walk, do some sport or become an expert in long distance pumpkin seed spitting.

Not necessarily in this order.

We will probably have some downtime.
We will probably have some downtime.
We will probably have some downtime.

I hope this helps

We love you too, but sometimes you make it really hard
Wink

Have a good day

Giancarlo, thanks for the information, especially for the warning not to take leveraged positions. I understand that all of you are busy and frustrated, I also understand that a downtime sometimes cannot be avoided in busy times. But please find a way to announce this earlier, more clearly, and on the website where it can't be missed. Now that the situation is clear we'll be happy to take an autumn walk outside.

I'll bite my tongue for now (I'm really angry), but I can just reply with your own words:
We love you too, but sometimes you make it really hard (and expensive)

Long time user here - thanks for the update Giancarlo.  I hope the new migration would include a faster update time - related to the order book that appears below where you enter orders...  (currently gives me available orders every 30 seconds).  by the way; I use the exchange section only.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree, and I don't really see the downside to either side of the equation.  The original lender would get their money back, the borrower would get auto-borrowed to a rate at the same term no higher then current rate (maybe even get a lower rate), and the new borrower would get an offer they have outstanding filled.

Great idea.

Tip. Funds lent at rates above 365% are not used to fill orders for users who borrow automatically, through the Margin trading page. Offers of less than 365% are taken far more often.

Since when is this part of the page?! Another mechanism to screw lenders over! Angry

It'd lower the flash return rate. And complicate the interface.

I'm not saying it is a bad idea - but at least a low priority one.

They are aware of this bug.  I have had it happen a few times, something to do with on database not updating quite as fast as the other, it will auto correct shortly.

The BTC price on china exchange now worth more than 800 usd per coin.

As soon as some of them wake up, they will use up all the money on bitfinex and withdraw the coin to sell on china exchange.

If anyone have money on bitfinex now, a good strategy is to buy as much bitcoin as possible before the Chinese wake up.
