Is KYC now required for pure crypto accounts/transactions, especially withdrawals? Or is it still only forced upon you once you want a bank transfer?

https://www.coinlend.org <-- automated lending at various exchanges.
https://www.bitfinex.com <-- Trade BTC for other currencies and vice versa.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

No, it is not required

Just checked Litecoin withdrawals and nothing KYC-related came up. Actually withdrew some EOS a week or so ago, no questions had been asked. Usually, Bitfinex warns about introducing such features beforehand via email (e.g. when they made 2FA mandatory), and I didn't see anything to that effect recently, either

Hello,

nobody knows for sure. unless things have changed recently, bitfinex does not publish withdrawal limits, even for unverified accounts. that means your withdrawals are "unlimited"---that is, until your account activity triggers their internal AML controls:

Quote
As per our Terms of Service, we reserve the right to ask for KYC information at any point in time if your account activity raises flags.

it could be deposit/withdrawal volume that raises flags. it could be the source of your coins. it could be how you log in or where you log in from. nobody knows the exact mechanisms, and they are probably frequently changing too.

you just have to be aware that at any time, your coins could be frozen, and you might be subjected to KYC. thus you should minimize the amount you have on deposit at any given time, in case you aren't willing to verify and would prefer to lose the coins instead.

Once again, Bitfinex officials  proved that they did not throw their words to the wind and announced " $400 Million Reward to Return Stolen Bitcoin:". Good deal, isn't it? Interesting that hacker is eligible too. Does he have the courage to take advantage of this offer
The hacker giving the coin back to bitfinex would mean bitfinex would not corporate with law enforcement (to the extent they can) regarding the hack, and may allow the hacker to receive coin in bitcoin on their platform, which would allow the hacker to purchase a privacy centric coin that law enforcement would have difficulty tracing.

But that could be a trap to catch him and they already have  a deal with law enforcement. IMO, hacker will be easier to track if he makes a contact though I don't think he will do that, 4 years is a big period to to conceive plenty of plots how to legalize stolen bitcoins

All of that assumes that the hacker was an outsider

But if it was an insider job or not a hack at all, 400M as a reward can be another little shenanigan on the Bitfinex part. The reward is too good to be true, honestly speaking, unless they have something else up their sleeve. Indeed, they won't tell what they are trying to achieve with this. However, why did they wait 4 years? For the dust to settle and cover up some touchy spots?

Automated crypto trading is currently a hot topic but many people do not know that Bitfinex has been had its eye on trade automation for years. The trading platform has a trading bot that was created by 3Commas and it can be customized to suit the trader’s strategy. Traders can use the bot for automatic buy or sell orders and they can even customize them to various order types.

Bitfinex announced today they have repaid the remaining $550 million balance of the loan they received from tether.

My guess is this has something to do with their pending deadline to have to produce documents to the NYAG. I am curious as to why it took them so long to do this considering they raised a billion dollars in early 2019 that I was under the understanding was going to be used to repay this loan.

Why does it make any commercial sense to pay back a loan before you have to?

The loan was not due until November of this year.

Most loans accrue interest periodically, and if a company cannot produce returns (adjusted for risk) from investing the money that could be used to repay a loan that is greater than the interest rate, the company is incurring interest expenses for no reason. I am not familiar with bitfinex's intimate financial details, however, I would find it hard to believe that bitfinex is able to invest $550 million for 6 months, and reliably earn a risk-adjusted return greater than the interest rate they were paying.

The only thing I could possibly see them using that kind of money on is capital for their OTC trading desk, but I am not sure it would generate that much revenue.

As you already stated it could be to do with NYAG. There must have been some reason that is was done now rather than before or waiting until November.

They are affiliated companies so it's effectively an internal loan and they are paying interest to themselves. I would think it highly likely they were not able to do something to earn more than 0% in it. This looks more of a matter of internal accounting than any great mystery.

There could be PR reasons, too, putting some of their current or potential users at ease. They could go further and find someone trustworthy who could corroborate their claims.

Datapoint about my friend's experience with Bitfinex recently:

 - A number of reasonably large USD transfers have gone through without incident over the last half year.  I would specify that it is without incident from Bitfinex's side...the banks themselves are chronic sources of grief and delay.

 - A recent incident with a new bank saw a wire be 'returned' by the bank to the sender, whatever that means.  The funds went missing.  After some legal threats to the bank, my friend got the tracking info.  Only then did friend bother Bitfinex support.  Upon doing so, they were very efficient and informative in tracking down the funds and getting them back to the appropriate wallet.

I've talked smack about Bitfinex over the years even though I've never been a customer.  I think it important to also relay positive information when the vendor does provide exemplary service so that is what I am doing.  As always, YMMV, but this is my friend's recent experience.

Who could help? What should I do? Or can I forget my money?

Was your transaction non-standard or unusual in any way? Are you comfortable sharing the txid and blockchain the deposit was sent to?

I don't think bitfinex is very active on bitcointalk, but you can try posting on twitter and you might get their support's attention.

What is here non-standard or unusual? I've sent the USDT (SOL) to my deposit address on bitfinex.

Here is the Wallet and the Transaction ID:

Just tried some research based on your info, but seems that someting IS unusual....

searched your tx id on this explorer that say it will search all three chains where usdt can be transferd :https://stablecoin.tokenview.com/en/usdt and no result.

readed this article : https://ccfox.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/900000957406-Difference-in-Three-USDT-Chain-OMNI-ERC20-and-TRC20 and this give the three format of address that is used on the 3 networks to transfer usdt, and you address is not on any of the formats present on this article.

Quote

OMNI (Bitcoin (BTC) Network)

Address Style

Begin with a number 1 or 3

Example: 183hmJGRu...

ERC20 (Ethereum (ETH) Network)

Starts with ‘0’ and  ‘x’

Example: 0xbd7e....

TRC20 (Tron Network)

Beginning with a capital T

Example: T9zP14....

Searched also the tx id on solana explorer, and nothing else also there (in case you where sending SOL as you cite them in you statement.

So without any other info, seems hard to find where you send, what coin and what network you used.

Ok, i don't know if is a problem of my browser, but if i copy the tx id on the explorer of solana i can't see nothing, if i use your complete link, the tx is visible....

For what i can see in the explorer effectively the transaction is confirmed and ok....

Why bitfinex keep all that time to process and thay say that is a long process too, is a myster, searched some more, and i can see that usdt is supported on solana by more than one year, so your problem is strange, exchanges have to manage this situation in small time.

Umbelievable.....

The only thing i can try to suggest, is to don't flood support with new requests/tikets often, because most of support teams on the crypto world, if they receive another ticket for the same request they send you back at the end of the queue. i know of more than one site that do this thing. i don't know if bitfinex do the same.....
