I have a 8 card rig which I want to spend on experimental mining. I saw veriblock but it's only on bittrex (no KYC thx). Are there other projects worth pointing the hashrate?

FLUX, previously known as Zel
coinmarketcap.com/currencies/zel/
zel.network
zelcore.io

It uses Equihash 125,4 algo, which is GPU friendly.
Their wallet, Zelcore is worth checking out. If you need support then you can join their discord. They have very active community and team members are always there to support you or any new members. Have fun!

FLUX

thanks for your detailed post but this project just recently did a plus ~100% gain and pulls in 50% less profits than regular old ETH mining.
I think I have to pass.

Depends, its not profitable today but I think it will be worth some value when it gains some exposure. But yes, you know better what to do with your hashes and electricity.
If you judge projects just based on price, then I think you will miss many good projects that are out there. Just imagine not investing in or mining ETH when it was around 80 USD, because it was not profitable to even cover electricity bill at that time. This is crypto and price is not the only factor to look into when looking for new projects, imho.

If FLUX aka Zel or any other PoW coin interest you that much just mine ETH and swap for FLUX or other , it makes no sense to start mining FLUX when it's not the most profitable coin, if you can earn 14-15$ on ETH a day then start buying FLUX with it instead of mining FLUx which probably 6$ per day

Do consider factors like transferring ETH to exchanges then exchanging it to BTC then to FLUX, if mining ETH just to swap for FLUX. On top of that, if you are mining with 3080s or 3090s then you probably would have to mod your GPU to keep that hot GDDR6X cool, which again costs €70+ and additional time.
The OP asked for experimental mining, not trading/swapping so suggested to check out FLUX which is on Equihash 125,4 algo and I think the project is going strong. I only have 3080s and 3090s, so I am not so sold on making so much effort to mine ETH, its just too much work with some risk, if modding not done well. However, I do have my MSI Suprim 3080 and 3090 pointed to ETH, as they are so good at handling GDDR6X temps and electricity bill needs to paid, and others to FLUX, because supporting network by mining it is also important for the betterment of a project.

There is nothing about sense or no sense imho, it depends what you prefer and your target is. Some people just mine for fun, some people are addicted to hardware and just buys hardware to mine different coins with them, just to play around. I was one of them in my initial crypto days. There are different people with different goal in crypto space. Everyone has their own preference, so I leave it upto people to decide what makes sense to them and what not. I just put up my opinion. Smiley

And yes, I agree with you, if profit at today's price is the only target then there is no doubt ETH is what you should mine. But if you want to explore around then its better to look around with other factors open.

Have fun with mining and enjoy the ride! Good luck Smiley
