I recently sent BTC from my account at local bitcoins to my KeepKey wallet. Unfortunately I sent it to a BCH account. I own the address that it was sent to. What should I do to recover the BTC?

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Get the private key out for that address and import it into a wallet such as electroncash[1] in order to be able to recover it.

1. https://electroncash.org/#downld
Read again. OP said that he sent BTC to a BCH address, and not the other way around. Electron Cash is a Electrum fork for Bitcoin Cash. You can't see or spend Bitcoins with it.

OP: download Electrum[1], and when creating your wallet choose: Standard Wallet -> Use publir or private keys -> Paste your private key and click Next. Send your Bitcoins to your correct address and it's done.

I am not actually sure but I think the first reply is already the answer to your question. But let this be a lesson to all. Escpecially that the main concept of Bitcoin, and other cryptocurrencies as well, is to have these codes and addresses as the main information, and the only information, needed to make transactions. These addresses are the reason why we are and we can stay anonymous.

Thanks for the advice but how do I find my private key to paste it into the new wallet?  Can I use the twelve word pass phrase?  My understanding is that a private key is a 256 bit character string beginning with the number “5”.  The only information I have from my hardware wallet is the pass phrase.

I'm not sure if this would work, but you can try to get your KeepKey wallet seed and import it in Electrum.

While creating a new Electrum Wallet, choose: Standard Wallet -> I already have a seed -> Paste your KeepKey seed -> Click in "Options" -> Select "BIP39 seed" -> Next.

I'm not 100% sure that this will work, as I don't have a KeepKey to test with, but it should be possible to identify the private key using the 12 word seed mnemonic and Ian Coleman's BIP39 mnemonic code convertor: https://iancoleman.io/bip39/

NOTE: you should create an offline copy of this (instructions are at the bottom of the page) and you should run it on an offline computer

You put the 12 word mnemonic where it says "BIP39 mnemonic", set the coin type to "BCH - Bitcoin Cash", and then click the BIP44 tab, your addresses should show at the bottom (you make need to click "show more" if you have used more than 20 addresses.

You may also need to change the "External/Internal" value from 0 to 1 to see your "change" addresses.

No, you haven't... you've sent BTC from an online service... to a BCH wallet on another online service, for which you don't have access to the private keys... this is a LOT different to sending BTC to a BCH wallet that you hold the private keys for. Undecided

No, assuming your transaction is showing as confirmed, then your BTC will be residing on a BTC address at Kucoin that is identical to the BCH address you sent it to.

The ONLY people who can help you now are Kucoin. Given they are an exchange, and most likely using MultiSig "3"-type addresses, your chances of recovery are relatively slim. It is not impossible for them to recover the coins, but it isn't super easy either. Do not be surprised if they say "sorry, can't help" or want to charge you a fee for recovery.

What service? did you also accidentally and totally by mistake sent BTC to a BCH address? Cheesy Good to know that BCH addresses are the same old bitcoin addresses, And you could recover any BTC if you've sent them to a BCH address, You can't recover any BCH sent to a segwit address starting with 3, I'm not sure if that is even possible, BCH miners would ignore that TX and it shall come back to your wallet.

It IS possible... The miners won't ignore the transaction as you are simply sending to a (valid) P2SH address. The transaction is completely valid according to the validation rules on the BCH network.

The network doesn't care what the underlying "script" for the P2SH address is until you attempt to spend it... Which is why you can't recover BCH sent to a SegWit address.

Get the private key out for that address and import it into a wallet such as electroncash[1] in order to be able to recover it.

[1] https://electrum.org/
But I am not quite sure that local bitcoins provide you with the private key of your wallet if this is the case I think OP might certainly be in a problem and you must contact local bitcoins support. I am not quite sure about this.

I did this yesterday on shapeshift. accidentally put my bch address instead of my btc address to receive btc. the confirmations went thru and i figured it was lost. so i can actually retrieve them? i also have some bitcoin cash coins in that address, do i have to worry about those coins being corrupt bc bitcoin coins in there? i use a trezor and just emailed support. is there anything i can do to get my btc?

thanks for help

update** trezor has a very easy to use recovery method that worked for me, got my .182 btc back!

heres link to recovery tool:

You'll need to contact coinbase and ask them for assistance. They're the only ones with access to the private keys required to recover those coins.

If coinbase won't help, then there is no way for you to recover those coins.

Binance won't be able to assist you in any meaningful way. They have nothing to do with the receiving address. Given the issues Coinbase are having relating to BCH trading and such, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a quick response... Their support seems to be very overloaded at the moment Undecided

Your only option is patience Wink

Fack so annoying
