Wallet synchronized with like 32k blocks or something, wasn't paying too much attention - started solo mining using the wallet address as username (first time I've ever done that, I was surprised when the miner didn't just stay down, but I digress) and now it has to synchronize with another like 1.5m blocks?

Have I messed up somewhere or is this a normal thing or is this maybe screwy? I've never jumped in on a coin this early before so I've no idea what I'm expecting to see.
