Here's my animation.  It's 3:05 and covers most of the main devcoin stuff.  I'm open to suggestions, so check it out!  Smiley

This is just awesome! In my opinion definitely worth the bounty Smiley

EDIT: The only small thing I would change is the soundtrack - put in some chilled psytrance instead to really capture the feel of an amazing technological phenomenon Smiley

I agree! If no admin objects to giving the bounty within four days, Smeagol will get the 48 share bounty. If an admin does, it will go to a range vote of three randomly chosen admins.

It claims that 95% goes to [receivers, basically]. That is factually incorrect isn't it? It should say 90%?

(Other than that, its great, so lets fix that, hmm?)

+1 great work Smeagol.

On music, one option might be something under creative commons. e.g. miguel herrero http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/6189/miguel-herrero  Electro or Ice Beat - just examples as that's the only creative commons artist I can think of and because we're not all going to have same taste on music - it's your work so your choice.

Edit: Didn't make the point I was trying to very well. The artist suggestion wasn't to hijack your video smeagol but just an idea that finding a creative-commons musician, noting that and maybe [us all?] paying him some dvc would serve to highlight the crypto-real world payment link, particularly appropriate in the case of 'free' creations to Devcoin.

matt608: over christmas https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=310280.msg3511715#msg3511715

markm/sidhujag: agree generally on both the absolute and relative points you make (although there wouldn't be 'extra' shares, there'd just be a great opportunity pool for other(s) because the adjusted total number would be lower).

I said I'd pay 1 million dvc to the creator of a video. So if Smeagol gets the bounty, he'll also get that from me.

I'm not in favour of reducing writer pay to 1/5th a share per 1000 words, but I don't mind  the idea of reducing the total allowed number of shares per round, but I'm not sure of the purpose.  With the prices soaring that should give the incentive we need for the bounties to get done, provided the bounties are promoted enough.

Unless the basic problem is the fact that one can maybe make way the heck more money rambling on for thousands of words about some piece of vapourware one would like to develop or like to see developed by someone else than one could possibly hope to make by actually writing code...

Or just rambling on about anything, heck why even write about projects or code, one could write about anything at all...

-MarkM-

I'm definitely in favour of stamping out rambling, but reducing the shares per 1000 words also dis-incentivises good writing.  Perhaps if the voting system were made more 'extreme', so that really bad writing could be rated so low that it earns very little, while good writing earns a lot.  At the moment good writing is rewarded just a little, and bad writing discouraged just a little, perhaps we should make that difference stronger.

I have a YouTube account named "Official Devcoin Channel (DVC)" which has been sitting idle waiting for quality videos. Marketing wise, having Smeagols video there (after the 95% changed to 90%) would look professional, and is something that we can build on down the road. Thoughts?

Well done Smeagol!

Thanks psybits, markm, and weisoq!  It would be great if the video was put on the Official Channel.  I'm in the process of changing the stats and also will change the music to something under the CC license so then it'll reflect the open-source philosophy of devcoin.  I'll update this post once I'm done.

RE-Edit: I found this site http://devcointalk.org/ Why does it not qualify for the bounty? Before I add another site to our list, someone tell me if I'm doing right or not...now I may have wasted a domain name...doh!

It doesn't qualify yet because the bounty requires code changes to the Simple Machines Forum (SMF) code. That is the hard part and why no one has claimed the bounty even though it's been there for several months. Someone else also thought it meant just making a forum, so I added an explanation to the bounty which now reads:
http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_bounty_now#forum

"The forum bounty requires programming, changing the Simple Machines Forum (SMF) code, it can not be accomplished just by making a forum and changing settings. The features mentioned below are for all users, not just forum administrators.

24 shares plus six million devcoins for a Simple Machines Forum (SMF) cryptocoin forum with email. Also, 24 shares plus six million devcoins for the option for the Original Poster to add moderators, and another 24 shares plus six million devcoins for the option to block trolls either by adding a block list or by automatically blocking everyone on the Original Poster's ignore list."

I doubt if any old bounties need to be doubled or increased because the exchange rate has skyrocketed lately, not only the rae against bitcoin but also the rate against fiat because bitcoin itself has also been skyrocketing. Devcoins might actually be worth more right now per coin than they have ever been.

They are worth more than they've ever been, right now about 0.071 cents:
http://coinmarketcap.com/

Quote
So I suggest letting the increase in value of cryptocoins in general, the tide that is floating all boats lately, take care of making existing bounties start to look good again.

Unless the problem is that the pay for devtome writing will still keep dwarfing the pay for normal bounties since it too is floated by the same tide?

Yup, that is the problem. Also, programming the forum is doable but hard. Paying a few 48 share bounties to get a forum with all those features, finally fixing trolling and spam, would be so worth it.

Quote
If so maybe we should consider making a thousand words be a fifth of a share instead of a full share, since we also only have a maximim number of shares in a round no matter how much writing anyone does.

It's much easier to change bounties that change the code for earnings.

Judging by the responses I don't see there being a problem so I've sent them as promised (the reference post was https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=233997.msg3094460#msg3094460).

HD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn3RMs1MllU

I can easily change the music in the Youtube video editor, so does anyone have any suggestions?  Right now, the HD video has no music and the 480p animation has the default background music.  (It takes too long to export an HD video with music)

The HD video is a bit laggy, too so I'm thinking about removing it.

Nice!  I gave it an upvote, would be good for everyone here to do that if these are final versions.

I agree, take it down. One video is easier to maintain than two, and all that is necessary is that people can see it. 480 pixels should be enough for anyone Smiley

I have some bounty updates as well, the ones listed below have been going unnoticed for a bit:

  • There is a one-share award still available for writing a post of at least 50 words about buying a gift card from this business: http://dvc4giftcards.us/
  • There is a one-fifth of a share bounty for a last devcoin button.
  • There is a three-share bounty for a devcoin web wallet.

If you want to see the full list of bounties, go to http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_bounty_now.  To claim a bounty, just post in this thread.  If there are no objections after four days, you'll receive it.  Also, if you would like to pledge some devcoins to a bounty, you a free to do so.

Also, now that the market cap has surpassed $1000k, projects in these categories are eligible for funding:

Software

    Modify Big Application
    Small Application

Hardware

Aircraft, 3 m Diameter Solar Balloon
    Board Game
    Medicine, Fortified Food

I've gotten quite a few requests to create accounts for new writers. I made several accounts this afternoon or requested a writing sample.  If you have written me and still not gotten a response, please message me again as I may have simply missed you. Please include a small writing sample (50 to 100 words) with your request.  Thanks everyone for your patience. Devcoins are suddenly getting really exciting Smiley

At what point to the devcoin denominated assets go bust? As they were taking on debt when price was so low for so long? What does margin call mean? Will they have to go out and buy dvc at market to service debt? That would send price thru the sky!

Maybe with the new DVC value (and it's still rising) we could have a new bounty for upgraded clients across all platforms - with some nice new features integrated such an integrated exchange, price ticker, messaging, voting on new open source projects to sponsor even, easypost to Devtome? etc

I don't want to add anything to the client, because every feature is a potential monetary exploit.

However, a forum doesn't hold money, so features could be added there safely. The integrated exchange would itself be exploited if the forum was hacked into, so it shouldn't be integrated. A price ticker is safe, and would be great for each alt coin. Messaging is already there. Voting on new open source projects to sponsor, or anything else, would be good. For easypost to devtome, sharing login might be a security risk, but it would be safe for a link to be generated to a devtome page from the post title.

I suggest the following:
18 shares for a price ticker in a forum
24 shares for automatic vote counting of public 0-99 range votes
12 shares for a link generated from a post title

These bounties would be doubled if the other forum bounties are doubled. Any objections, or should anything be changed?

When going to a Devtome page there is still text at the top of each page saying

Can some one remove that please? It detracts from the pages.

Good point, I wasn't sure when to delete it, it's removed now.
