Applied to earn devcoins by developing, e-mailed metazilla 10 days ago. Should I keep waiting or assume that I don't fully qualify?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Hi all, I am happy to report that I have finished the devcoin.org site redesign:

http://devcoin.org/

Thanks to Weisoq for his wiki page and whoever created the Devcoin press release that went out a couple of weeks ago - really saved me a lot of time compiling the content.

Let me know what you guys think - I will be sticking around as the new Devcoin web guy so I can certainly make edits and additions going forward.
Awesome work! Love it! Cheesy

Nice, looks realy good!! Is there going to be a forum on devcoin.org ?

I just looked at the round 31 account file to check my wordcount and noticed under "Devtome Earnings" that the line with my username, address, and wordcount has been deleted. I recently put subheadings on my user page on devtome because I had seen some other users do that and I abhor a long list without them, but could that be messing with the script that does the wordcount?

Yes it does mess with devtome.py, because a heading looks like the end of the invoice section. Only put simple text in the invoice, not headings.

How can I run the scripts to get an up-to-date version of devtome.py, with new analytics, word counts, etc.?

I only joined Devtome a couple of days ago but already have articles up on the Devtome page. Do the articles have to be added to the link tree of the topics section by admin before they will be counted by the script?
No the script only 'reads' your page, but it's very helpful to include a category at the base of your articles and then add them to 'Most Recent'. It can take a while between doing that and then adding to the link tree. With hits and popularity now also a (smaller) factor in earnings, doing that also increases your earnings potential.

Is there a way to run the script to get an updated earnings multiplier?

Yeah, I think an FAQ is a great idea. The short answers can be listed traditional FAQ style, and links can go to more detailed articles.
I've started a general FAQ page - just notes and potential links for devcoin.org. Think it would be helpful if as many people as possible suggest questions and answers - particularly in areas they know most about (or areas they don't understand so more info would be useful for) http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_faq

Smeagol - There are instructions http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin#generating_the_files but I don't know if this updates multiplier before end of round.

Great work hypersire. I really like the clean, snapshot look, so this feedback is only minor things really:

*Front page:
Scrolls a bit too quickly?
Step 2: 'Devcoins can be merge mined with Bitcoin, earned by developing, writing or completing tasks known as bounties, or purchased on various exchanges'.
Painters – can a painting be open source?
Open Source Outer Space - Start with 'Bounties are funded in line with market capitalization. When the...' just so context is clearer

*How it works - Purpose:
maybe at the end add a couple of current projects/people with ongoing funding (eg Open Transactions/Bitcoin QT)

-Specifications:
‘Retarget every day’ - does joe average know what this means?
Instead of '21 billion total coins', 'Coin supply is constant'.
Link on that page to more detail on devtome for those more technically minded, inc later maybe FAQ with more easy to understand explanations for non techs

*Get DVC - Earn Devcoins:
Think UTB changed that to msg metazilla on 'earn devcoins by developing' page? Might want to check with him how proposals are assessed.
Also link future bounties?

*Spend dvc:
Start with something like 'The primary use of Devcoins is in project funding' to underscore general ethos?
Add http://altcoincards.com/
-----
To add later

The Win32 devcoin QT and devcoind are not available for testing.. this is based on bitcoin 0.8.5 so a brand new wallet GUI was built. This needs testing. There were many features added to the UI including sending to multiple addresses at once, built in testnet UI from the QT application, and new RPC commands that didn't exist in devcoin before.

All of these things need testing on your machine(s)... so please head on over to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=310280 to download the binaries or look at the source code!

Any feedback is welcome.

Anyone who can build on the different platforms outlined in the OP will help tremendously.

I think getting this out along with the new site is a good kickstart, and then my PR im going to do will bring in some solid investors looking for a stable platform.

Thanks,
Jag

I like the new website so much.
I would like to make a german translation for this site. (and continue to update the translation as the website grows)

Where can I sign up for that?

Can I do this as my first job earning dvc?

Please explain how I should proceed.

I am sure a german translation will help
a) rank the site better within google
b) bring devcoin to the german speaking people of germany, austria and swiss. (all big fans of cryptocoins and opensource)

Here the first page as a test translation into german. It has some errors, I just wanted to show a first impression.
It would be great to have country flags at the bottom of the site.

It has some problems with the upper menu buttons, since german needs a little more longer words there, that's what made the layout burst.

An issue is that devtome is only in English, so writers whose English is not good enough can not earn devcoins. I don't think a German translation is worth doing now. In the future, if devcoin value increases, we'll make a hardware site, and then it would be worth making a German translation for that site.

I think it's still worth it. English is required curriculum in Germany and many other countries. I know quite a few people from Germany, Sweden, and Finland who speak better English than native English speakers, and that's just what they learned in school, not because their job required it or anything. English is also one of the lingua franca of Europe, so there's a lot of English discourse on the internet. Countries such as those also have a lot higher percentage of population that is into things like opensource and p2p.

Even though that audience would by default be able to read the page in English, including it in other languages is evidence of openness. Eventually that could lead to Devtome being a multi-lingual project. For now a writing sample could be required to see if their English meets standard.

About a week ago, plagiarism was found in the articles of Notabot (Fheenix on devtome). It was just after the receiver files were made, so it was too late to regenerate the files. I talked with Notabot, and it turned out he hired a writer who was copying text. He was really sorry about it and wanted to quit. It was many articles, about 220,000 words worth, at an average of 300,000 devcoins per share, it's about 66 million devcoins. Notabot then deleted all those articles from devtome. Notabot was also selling his devcoins, so he has few left and full restitution is impossible. I judged that his repentance was sincere, and so I suggested a way to atone, following in spirit:
http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=conditional_forgiveness

Notabot would stop selling his devcoins, and send all but 5 million back to people at the end of December, and then send all but 5 million back at the end of the round 30 payment at the end of January. For a year, round 31 to round 42 inclusive, a third of his earnings would be sent back.

This might seem like an easy way off, because this will not pay back all the devcoins. However, it is much harder and more expensive than simply quitting.

I think this a reasonable atonement, however if a majority of admins don't want this then it's off.

If you think him sincere, I will stand by your judgement.

I will also dutifuly accept a chunk of DVC from his pittance that might be due to me as a member of 'the people': 1Nm4yZhSApzkitY1aNjwqdmu136eYKc9RQ
