I just had a cool idea, I am buying quite a few books (and will be buying many, many more) during the process of writing my history book. So I decided that I'm going to sell books for Devcoins once I have gone through about 30 (so far I plan on going through 130+ and have gone through only 2, but it's only been about a week).

So there will be a DVC library to purchase books from soon-ish. Smiley

Hey I'd like to get in on this too--I have a TON of books (not really a collector, but love them none-the-less) and would love to sell and buy books in DVC denomination.

Do you plan to start a website? I think CoinPayments can add the ability to take DVC to your site...

DVC for books is a brilliant idea as used books are fairly cheap to buy and ship, yet they are often full of valuable info!

Yup, most stuff will be $5 and probably $10 at most, unless it is something fairly new.
And I do plan on making a website, it will probably start on this website though as a forum.

If everyone is thinking outside the box, there is a new box.

I've been looking at the round 27 CSV file too, and it looks like for some reason the last 3-4,000 words I submitted aren't being picked up by the script.  I haven't done anything different on my end.  I submitted my most recent article several days ago and still my word count hasn't changed from what it was before I submitted.  Anyone know why?  I did check to make sure I added those articles to my invoice.

I don't think the script has been picking up my words either!  I am not even shown on it!   Huh

That could explain why the number of shares is so low even though this round is about to end.  Devtome people, please consider this a bug report Smiley

Just my .02: My words are being counted correctly AND the stuff I put on last night was calculated correctly when comparing the 9/8 .csv and today's .csv. So it is working...

I ran it for you just now and the weighted word count is 102,117 words, roughly 15,000 extra words. The earnings at Emfox's site are redone every day, so it should eventually see them. I don't know what that will be after the earnings multiplier, but for you it should be more than 15 shares.

To everyone,

I'm going to get the popularity for the entire round, not just the last four days, to stop people from gaming the system by buying advertising for just the last days. This means that new writers will get a lower earnings multiplier if they started writing at the end of the round.

To Finshaggy,

I've posted 10,000 words, and I'm not even on here.

I think someone did edit mine, because it's not supposed to be new. I'm going to check it and change mine or let you know if yours is wrong (I doubt yours is)

So this round might pay out bigger than my first ever round? I think the word could was 501,000 for the round I started on... If it stops around 200,000 the shares will be 2x as big as last time I wrote...

Oh I'm pretty sure round 27 will be closer to 800 than 500 and no way will it be as low as 200.  But others can probably confirm since I haven't really kept up.

Good to see you again shaggy.  You should check out Cryptsy chat, trading currencies is a pretty decent way to make enough coin to accumulate the coins you like to hold longer term.  That's what I'm trying to do.

I'm just going to use my DVC on BTC for now, use any extra to rebuy DVC to help the market. But use the BTC to buy books, so I can have more research for my own book.

Yeah, I saw that elsewhere too. The guy is offering $3 or so for 600+ words and light research. That's so ridiculously low I wouldn't even consider it.

Would anyone like to join in the creation of a history book???

I am covering BC history, and will cover some of the crusades. But if anyone wants to do Pre-History, or AD history... It's WIDE open, and I plan on publishing, so you would get your name on the front for free, plus whatever portion of the book you write as payment. I do want final edit though, because I want this book to be something that interests kids. I want it to be a history book that kids ASK for, so I don't want someone just filling pages with boring facts, just gloss over the boring stuff and maybe put an interesting picture of it. They can get boring from the teachers in school.

That thought crossed my mind too, actually.  I probably would consider it if it weren't for the fact that I can earn a whole lot more writing *whatever I want* for the Devtome.  Among other things, the Devtome could turn out to be a nice pricing standard for writers' compensation Smiley

EDIT:  Regardless of the pay it could be a good opportunity for a writer to gain more exposure and that's the part I find appealing.  Honestly, the main reason I am very hesitant to jump on this now is because I don't believe I have the time to read a lot of posts on the forum and then write about them at this time in my life.  Writing for the Devtome is actually a really good fit for me right now Smiley

Today I actually have time to devote to writing, so like a lot of Devtome writers I'm trying to squeeze in a few more shares before the round closes.  As I'm doing this, I came up with an idea that I thought was worth sharing.  What do you all think?

Nice post, I have a suggestion for everyone.

Order a textbook or 2 (or a companion book) about a subject you like. This way you have something to reference when you write, which takes out the element of writers block.

If you are in college, lucky you, you probably already have a few.

I have a few textbooks in the mail (including one with extensive details about Rome and Carthage during the Punic wars), and I'm pretty positive that next round I will be writing over 80,000 words, which means I will have some roll over, and it will pay out next time and the time after that etc etc.

And that's probably the best way to do it, so you just always have a good amount coming in.

If everyone is thinking outside the box, there is a new box.
