I've been curious how much Bitcoin I could get donated just by exposing my shared address. I've seen stories where people get their address or QR code onto TV and people actually send them Bitcoin! I think that's wonderful. I'm traveling to NYC in a few weeks and am thinking about getting a shirt with my QR code on it and maybe getting some stickers printed to leave around town. I was also thinking about putting one on the back of my car, but around here I'm not sure how popular it is. Anyway, I also made a website, www.himomsendbitcoin.com to see what the experience would be like collecting Bitcoin in this way say for a year. My coworkers cannot understand Bitcoin and think that I'm crazy for being so passionate about it. I hope that I can show them that Bitcoin is a powerful idea and network that is changing the world as we know it.. Maybe it's a waste of time and money, only time will tell.

Hey Mike,

I don't have any success stories or experiences to share, however, this may help: https://walletlist.me/

It lists all of your crypto wallets in 1 place.

I would love to hear more about your adventures.

Anyone on the interwebs... please donate to Mike and then here https://walletlist.me/@jason (not affiliate link).

I'm not discouraging you but I would like to know on where those funds to be used for? since you are asking for some donations. There are lots of ways for you to scatter all over the place on your wallet address but I don't think that people would easily give you the funds that you are hoping for.We do know bitcoin is a valuable thing considering on its price now.Giving free money to random people is hard even a single cent.Dont expect from it unless on some considerable situations which on public would be convinced to give or lend some money but if theres no other reason then expect you would get nothing.

I had the same idea when i started my bitcoin experience 2 years ago.
I thought:"Why don`t i just share my bitcoin address on forum signatures, blogs, tweets, facebook posts etc.
The final result was 0 btc donated. You have to create something useful for the people (a product or service)and they will reward you with their bitcoins.Asking for donations won`t work.

This.

To OP, getting others to donate, there must be a purpose why you are rasing these funds, do something good for them and etc. Don't rely on this. They will not give you any bitcoins for no reason.

Proof? Read @davis196 reply above.

In my opinion people on TV receiving Bitcoin was mostly about 1) the novelty factor and 2) supporting fellow Bitcoiners that photobomb national television with Bitcoin.

I don't think it's going to work by just randomly spamming your BTC address all over the place. It's something different if there's a cause (or lulz) to support.

When was the last time you randomly sent money to an anonymous BTC address?

Well, in all honesty, if I were to get any kind of considerable amount, I would pay off debts like car and student loans that my wife and I have. While I don't have any service or product to offer, at least yet, I'm viewing this as a sort of experiment. I was fascinated at the response to the guy who displayed a sign on ESPN and another who put his address on a legal pad behind Janet Yellen at a Fed Reserve hearing or something. And I think that everyone is fascinated (and some are skeptical) about the meteoric rise of Bitcoin. At any rate I've set my expectations low, but I haven't spent much on the website or anything and I'll probably let it got for a year and see how where it goes.

In the meantime, I'm learning more and more about Bitcoin. I've had an account with Coinbase and bought and sold small amounts, but I'm exploring wallets outside of exchanges. I kind of feel like the idea of having to pay a fee in an exchange is counterintuitive to the idea of Bitcoin. I've made a paper wallet, which is the one I'm using for the website and everything. Anyway, I plan on blogging about it over the next year, if there's anything to blog about!

I've always been kind of a outsider as far as Bitcoin goes and I'm new to this community and haven't had anyone to talk to about it. I appreciate everyone's feedback.

Why would anyone send you bitcoin for no specific reason? The 'buy bitcoin sign' -guy did get a lot of donations for spreading the word to buy bitcoin on national television but if you were to copy him I don't think a lot of people would donate because it already has been done. I don't know about you but I want to become whealty through my own hard work and effort and not gifted by other people through donations for no apparent reason.

Hi, welcome to the Bitcoin community!! Sure, if you get famous like the guy on TV did, you can get donations. Another way is to create works like videos, songs, articles about Bitcoin and people may just donate to you.

One thing that you should know is that transferring Bitcoin has transaction fees like 3 USD, which makes donating small amounts not worth it, so it is hard to ask for donations nowadays, unless it is large scale.

Just for your info, there used to be this service called ChangeTip that Reddit and YouTube supports, and you can basically give others small amounts of BTC with no fees (off-chain transactions), like 100 satoshis. Sadly, it is discontinued now. You may get better luck asking for donations of altcoins, like DogeCoins, LTC... but they will be less popular.

Since you are interested in Bitcoin, you might want to get more, or developing a more legit site to what you have now. Cheers! Cheesy

I actually held about 0.5 BTC back in like 2013 when the price was about 300 USD and I'm kicking myself now for not holding onto it or even buying more. Now that same amount only buys like 0.01-2 BTC.

I appreciate the feedback and will have to think about creating something worth paying for, if even just a little microamount.
