So,

I notice a lot of scam sellers.. they open up a new thread, they are able to delete peoples posts in their thread, and they are allowed to lock their own thread.

So many scammers are constantly posting their same scam threads, then locking them instantly so no one can call them out on their scams. Or theyll delete all the negative reviews and keep the fake 'good reviews' posted by accounts with 0 history, then lock their thread. Then they update their thread every few hours so that their thread shows up as most recent, and lock once again.

Why is this allowed? It's the same sellers constantly doing this and scamming users, yet it seems like bitcointalk mods don't care?

I think for sales threads, creators should NOT be able to delete peoples comments as well as lock their threads and edit/reopen? They are totally exploiting the system and all it does is hurt users.

Users like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1116581
Constantly create sales threads and lock them. Then update them every few hours to show up top and continue to lock.

More and more scam sellers are starting to do this method and I don't think its right that mods don't really do anything about it. I've reported multiple scammers who work in this way, but nothing happens.

Idk, just thought i'd bring this up. Hopefully something gets done.

I’ve viewed the one you’ve shared, that link profile. First thing i notice is the red negative trust on that account. So the DT members or the administrator himself have made they’re job done. If some newbies will still doing transactions with that account, it is not the forum or moderator has the problem but that newbies ignorance.

This forum is open to all and it means even to that scammy guy, so it is now our responsibility on our own to avoid them. The option of banning over and over again will not work because they can make a new account again and again. Giving them negative trust is the best thing to do.

Right, scammers will always be here. That is for sure, but my concern is the methods in which they boost themselves up, manipulate their threads, and lock them. Those are things that can easily be changed and save a lot of people from losing their money.

Not a lot of people give trust unfortunately. In his original thread there were over 20 users that got scammed by him, yet only 2 people left negative trust. Just an example.

Newbies or not, bitcoin is still quite new to a lot of people and its heaven for scammers. Why not make their lives a little more difficult by not allowing them to manipulate their threads, and boost them as recent and lock them constantly? That will make quite a big difference.

I see the same sellers, doing gift cards, cracked accounts, scam methods that are doing things in this way. If they aren't allowed to manipulate and lock their threads and boost them whenever they wish, they will have a MUCH harder time scamming people.

Yes, the user you have shared here constantly encounrages people to buy different illegal methods.
Not only this, there are many users who have same intention of using this forum.
I hope such scam allowance to be changed by moderators to avoid scam and bad reputation of this forum.

With the growing popularity of Bitcoin each day, more and more scammers will flood this forum and find and more and more creative ways to scam people especially those who are new to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

I believe that somehow there will be stringent rules and policies to thwart these scammers from doing their illicit businesses here.

Correct, I think DT members have already tag the scammers so its really up to the people who is willing to take the risk and bought his products. If you want to get them ban,  then that's another thing. They will just bought or create a new account, then DT tag them, then the cycle continues. As much as we want it here to put an end, its gonna take a lot of effort is terms of Theymos or even Cyrus to clean up the messed. And for those newbies who are still falling for this trap, please don't and used your common sense please.

As per forum policy staff do not moderate scams or potential scammers. However, as already mentioned I have already left him negative feedback. I wouldn't be against certain restrictions like removing the ability to self-moderate in the marketplace etc (or maybe only certain higher ranks have the ability to do so), but people are ultimately resoponsible for their own money and shouldn't be sending it to random people on the internet in the first place. I guess sometimes people just have to learn the hard way.

Maybe that is why the trust rating are there, to give feedback about a particular member either it
is a negative or a positive feedback for other users reference. Maybe reason why moderators can't
ban the member who are "scamming" is because scamming depends on the perspective of the
person, some may find that action as scammy but some may find it helpful.

Moderators don't have enough time to look into such case, there are many other tasks which they have to perform. It is our responsibility to not to fall into scammers traps and we should highlight such threads to give negative trust from the DT members; if still people are dealing with the red accounts then it is their fault.

I agree with the OP. I've tried listing some Bitcoin related domain names for sale, but by the time I've got the lid off my coffee, I'm on page 3. Domain names are the virtual real extate for the Internet, and Bitcoin is the best medium for dealing in virtual assets. Unfortunately Bitcoin talk is not the place to bring the two together, and I think the forum is the poorer because of this.

I'll dig out a name and try an experiment to illustrate this.

I did see you left him negative trust and I do appreciate that. I do think that removing the ability to self-moderate (unless reputable) would be a huge step in stopping these scammers from exploiting that system. Again, of course banning users etc wont work, they can make a new account. But my concern is mainly the methods they are exploiting to consistently be most recent and locking their threads so people can't warn others of their scam etc.

Bitcoin is growing more and more, and a lot of people not familiar with bitcoin will be flooding in. I just think that trust score alone isn't enough to thwart these scammers because a lot of people do NOT leave any trust, even after getting scammed. By disallowing them to self-moderate their threads, I think it will really help disrupt these scammers business since they won't be able to delete peoples negative reviews, and won't be able to exploit the system of updating to be most recent and locking and consistently doing that.

Well my listing is now on page 3 as I predicted. I won't bump it - not even to increase my activity count. Smiley
It has received over 200 views, and it would be interesting to know the mix of surfers who opened the thread.

but what about people like me that did not do anything like scamming people (check my profile I don't have any feedback related to scam) can you at least review their post whether to check if they deserve a red trust. If you can find any accusation about me being a scammer on this forum you can ban my account. So atleast be considerate to those who make a first offense like me but is willing to correct themselves like me I have removed the link on my facebook profile on my details here.

Pretending to be someone you're not is dishonest regardless of whether you intended to scam anyone or not.

I not pretending to be someone there since I have not used anyone's real name and only an alias like tanya since i like that anime character. because i have used that account on anime related pages years ago even before I have joined this forum. So its not like I'm being dishonest because I always tell people  that this is not my real name but the character that I like. search for tanya degurechaff on google so you will know about that character.

I can't believe it that someone mistakenly do that. Maybe it's because I just know that amime character  Grin from Youjo Senki (if I remember correctly).

Anyway, everyone can hide under a different names or aliases (right?) like Satoshi Nakamoto did.

A bit off topic to the concern I originally raised my friends. I'm just asking that sellers are not able to moderate their own threads unless they are reputable. That will disable these scammers from taking advantage of deleting posts, locking and updating their threads constantly to be up top without anyone calling them out for their scams.
