Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=141672.0Fee is 1.5%. Very simple; basically after you and the seller have agreed on price, JohnK will send you each the contract to agree on. Once you have, you will send the Bitcoins to the address provided by John. After you get the message from friedcat confirming that the shares have been transferred to your Bitcoin address, you send a message to John requesting that he release the funds to the seller.

Incidentally, how is it possible for Friedcat to manage all of these direct share exchanges? Aren't there 200,000+ outstanding shares? If *only* 1000 people are trading direct shares every day, that's completely impossible for a human to handle manually.

friedcat is (by now at least) likely a team of people, rather than just one. They do have quite the work load with all these share transfers, which is why it can take between 2 and 5 days to get confirmation of your transfer after the request is put in.
