I want to buy altcoins because they are cheap today. Of course everyone wants to get cheap coins and just hold on it till the price pump and then it dump for easy profits. That's the basic strategy of every trader so I think you should know it already. altcoins are the worst investment that you can make nowadays, just look at the charts, they all are in a downside, there is no way to take profit from them because it looks like if they are never going to recover from that dump, so the best thing to invest in is bitcoin, because it is rising a lot because of the previous/incoming forks, there is going to be the segwitx2 fork in a few days, it is still a good moment to re-stock your portfolio of some bitcoins instead of unknown altcoins.

Same here. Waves and Ethereum are the two most reliable coins right now in the altcoin world. These two coins are backed up by projects that will surely continue thriving and surviving even if the majority of the altcoins will die. There are much lesser risks involved in investing Ethereum and Waves. But we have to also admit that the growth of these two coins is not the same as other altcoins that is characterized by big spikes.

Yes I usually buy altcoins when the bitcoins price is high because most of the altcoins are on sale around that time meaning the prices are low. And you could divide your losses the last time you bought the coin so your loss would also lessen. That's how I usually deal with my losses in trading and wiat for bitcoins price to skyrocket.
