I haven't been able to recover my account nor even receive a response back from MtGox even though I opened my claim on the first day and provided all of the information needed. Anyone else have this problem? have they given up and started stealing month now? Perhaps they lost too much money and are not able to active accounts?

They're just overloaded from having too many accounts to deal with and too few people to deal with them. I'm sure they'll get back to you eventually. Many people successfully recovered their accounts with no issues.

Did you actually SUBMIT the claim? If you are still at the screen where you can add evidence, then you never submitted it.

My friend is still waiting for his 20BTC as well. I'm glad I am a noob in this case ... nothing in MtGox.

I was allowed to transfer funds into my account, then allowed to buy BTC, all without being given any warning that these funds would then be held hostage for an indefinite period of time (I'm still waiting after about two weeks now). The excuse that has been given for this refusal to transact is that I need to increase my transaction limit. Note that the transaction I am attempting to place is well under the cited $10000/month, $1000/day limit cited on https://support.mtgox.com/entries/20251501-aml-request-increase-transaction-limits . Regardless, in order to recover my funds, I am being forced to provide identity documents which I do not wish to provide to mtgox, given that, even assuming that they are honest people, they have demonstrated lax security in the past. Even after having provided these documents, I am now waiting for over 6 days for my account to be unblocked. Either they are totally overloaded with work... or I've just been scammed by mtgox. Either way, I'll be closing this account as soon as possible. How long did it take for you to recover your account finally?

Thanks for that link. I was actually phished immediately after I first contacted them, but that was quite transparent, as the URL in this email looks like it points to mgtox.com (not mtgox, anyway), but it really points to http://www.mtgfx.tk/users/blocked . This is worrying as well, as it implies that somebody was able to intercept my communication with mtgox and send back what was pretending to be a reply. I notified them of the phishing attempt, and every subsequent correspondence I've had with them has been to legit mtgox email addresses, and my issue history appears on their website, so no.

Mt. Gox is not a scam. I can't help but think threads like this are deliberate attempts to undercut confidence in the bitcoin and legitimate bitcoin websites.

Nefanon, I don't think that's what's going on here at all. If someone's funds are being held without apparent cause I think they have reason to be concerned no matter how reputable the exchange is. I've read all over the forums that mtgox has requested ID from people in several instances, sometimes in accordance to their TOS - sometimes not. I've read they've been vulnerable to attacks and I can see why people are leery of sending them their information. Another reason people might be reticent to send their ID is because they do not want their real identity linked to their Bitcoin balances in case there is ever any government snooping at the exchange.

When I contacted MTGox they responded within a couple of hours. Granted I was just bitching that I couldn't use PayPal but still it was prompt and from a human. Also, I've been exchanging USD/BTC freely for at least a year and have never had any problems.
