This is all I get when I try to verify a signature:

Wallet instance has no attribute 'verify_message'

Any way this can be fixed? Signatures are important in my opinion.

Tips and donations:

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Hello ThomasV, I love using Electrum, thanks for this.

Is there an upgrade instruction for people using portable version?
Do I just install into a new folder and copy my dat file over?

Thanks for the patience....your gracious response is much appreciated...somehow I got here by search and my reply about the 1.7.4 upgrade went here by accident. Have a terrific day.

I'm also interested in a fix for the signature issue as I have a group buy I need to sign a payment for.

Message signing and verification is working just fine in 1.7.4

Not in the portable version it isn't...I just tried to do this yesterday.

It doesn't seem to sign properly.

I haven't tried in 1.8.0 yet.

Hello Thomas,

Sorry I took so long getting back on this.
I purchased a product from someone and they asked me to sign a msg from the account I used to send the funds.

So I went to the account number I used to send the funds from and right clicked to "Send message"....typed my message in the "Message" box and clicked to "Sign"....it creates a signature.

I sent it to the person and it was unreadable...so I used the same dialog to try to "Verify" my message, I enter the address and the signature and click "Verify" and it produces an error box that says "wrong signature".

Thanks for your assistance,
-Jeff aka CMMPro

well, if you could explain what exactly you misunderstood, or what caused you to do it wrong, then we might have a chance to impove things.

I didn't  realize that the original message needed to be entered into the message box when the address and signature were entered to "verify" the message.

I wrongly assumed that the message would somehow be decrypted and then fill the message box.

Nothing to really fix there....I just didn't know what I was doing. Sad

I don't mean this as an insult to your excellent work at all, I mean this as a humble suggestion for continuous improvement...perhaps a detailed step by step in the software manual(?)
