My First Draft of Step by Step Proof of Work Mining Guides

Main:  https://wiki.biblepay.org/POBH_Setup

Windows:  https://wiki.biblepay.org/POBH_Setup_Windows

Linux:  https://wiki.biblepay.org/POBH_Setup_Linux

Any and all feedback welcome!
Ive only ever solo mined so I definitely need feedback
and I need someone to please step through it

Question:
Are RPC config options not needed anymore on the wallet to use the external miner?

=

I also need help with MacOS and Raspberry Pi, Old guides:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BiblePay/comments/7id9r9/advice_for_bible_pay_wallet_on_mac/

https://www.reddit.com/r/BiblePay/comments/7qnbp4/bbp_miner_on_pi/

If they use the built in miner, they do still need the basic rpc commands (actually all the old solo mining config options in biblepay.conf still work, like gen=1, genproclimit=20 etc, minersleep=0, those things would cause the solo miner to automatically run when biblepay boots).

As far as the rpc though, if the user wants to manually start mining, they have to type :
setgenerate true num_cores
setgenerate false (to stop mining)

getmininginfo is a little slimmed down now (the pool fields have been removed.  As you know ABN is off, so that has been removed also).

So its basically simplified now.

Awesome! Thanks Rob!

Updated the PODC Setup Guide:
https://wiki.biblepay.org/PODC_Setup

I posted about us in popular Bitcointalk Altcoin Mining thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2683343.msg53449594#msg53449594

On todo list to add PODC to the website

We also need to spread to the BOINC and WCG forums, if anyone wants to help

(If anyone has video skills, would love to see a video tutorial get made!)

I've upgraded my sanctuaries to the latest wallet version (1.4.8.4.) and cleaned them as per Togo's guide. Everything seems to be working fine, but I can't seem to vote.

Code:
Voting failed! Failed to vote 0 time(s). (Check that sanctuaries are DIP3? Also you must wait 3 minutes in-between re-votes due to network rules.)

They are in the DIP3 list and I've been getting rewards consistently. Both controller wallet and sanctuary wallets are on the same chain, and they are not on a fork as far as I can tell...

Can you please post the voting command including the id you are using, as I voted manually for Togos proposal and it worked but I did it from the rpc.

I tried to vote using the GUI. I can't remember the command to pull all the Proposal ID's, and I don't know if I can copy them from the GUI proposal tab  Lips sealed So I can't try it from the rpc for now. How can I find a list of all the current Proposal ID's that I can copy/paste so I can try it from the rpc? There used to be an overview of all the proposals on pool.biblepay.org right?

Ok yes cause I would like to try to reproduce with one that actually throws
Code:
the gov exception error, so one way, is to type:
gobject list all proposals

Could you try voting on the woocommerce one?  98e09d657fb771f1559ab046af76d295ebde16f563d35ff9bc95ff738ae725f7

gobject vote-many objid funding yes

And let me know if successful and also, then try voting on the one you tried earlier and paste the vote string so I can reproduce?

Note that we have not passed the mandatory height yet, but thats another topic (partially related though).
Hi...
I'm on the same. I tried to vote only in GUI, so I've tried it again with command and here is result:
Code:
Error: Please enter the wallet passphrase with walletpassphrase first. (code -13)
After unlocking wallet it passed succesfully
Code:
"Voted successfully 1 time(s) and failed 0 time(s)."
With unlocked wallet I was able to vote also in GUI... so it looks that the wallet must be unlocked for voting... I didn't know about it Smiley

RAC is ?

EDIT
ok, found
5. Check your RAC (Recent Average Credit)
Probably need little time to WCG API to refresh because I've already sent some wus ...

Any idea of what's the ratio credit/bbp ?

If your RAC is below 250, you do not need to have any coins
If your RAC is above 250, you will need BiblePay coins in your wallet to get your daily rewards

Not sure to understand ...
If I have MORE than 250, I need coins in my wallet to be rewarded ? But if I'm new, I've ZERO coin in my wallet ...
What's the formula for RAC ?

Yes, you need BiblePay coins in your wallet to get research rewards

The community voted for it, I think there are good reasons for it (I voted against it)
https://forum.biblepay.org/index.php?topic=476.0

But it basically requires you to invest upfront into BiblePay (which adds more steps) and then over time as you gain rewards you surpass the initial investment and make profit

The reasoning, if I understand correctly, is so that people dont just come into BiblePay, get the rewards and just sell them all, But rather by "staking" (having to own coins) they become investors into BiblePay

RAC is for what period ? 24h ?
I mean, how many credits in 24h are 250 RAC ?

RAC is a little bit complicated
https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Computation_credit
https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=9482
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BOINC_Credit_System
https://www.reddit.com/r/gridcoin/comments/9on87y/how_long_does_it_take_for_my_racmag_to_level_out/e7vftj9

Quote
RAC(new) = RAC(old)*d(t) + (1-d(t))*credit(new)
Where d(t) is the decay function, and t is the time (in seconds) since the last Recent Average Credit recalculation.

d(t) = e^(-ln(2)*t / 604800)

So RAC has two parts... a decay function for old credits and a buildup for new credit.

Using days as the unit, let's look at the buildup...

1 - d(0 days) = 1 - (1/2)^(0 / 7 days) = 0

1 - d(1 day) = 1 - (1/2)^(1 / 7 days) = 0.09427 = 9.427%

1 - d(2 days) = 1 - (1/2)^(2 / 7 days) = 0.1797 = 17.97%

1 - d(7 days) = 1 - (1/2)^(7 / 7 days) = 0.5 = 50% (the "halflife" point)

1 - d(14 days) = 1 - (1/2)^(14 / 7 days) = 0.75 = 75%

1 - d(21 days) = 1 - (1/2)^(21 / 7 days) = 0.875 = 87.5%

1 - d(28 days) = 1 - (1/2)^(28 / 7 days) = 0.9375 = 93.75%

So during steady state computation (credit granting), it will take 7 days for your RAC to "charge" to 50% of the equilibrium value.
After one month, you will be greater than 90% of the equilibrium value

So much information Smiley
From what I understand, I will probably be under 250, so no need to stake for first reward.
Will see in few hours ...

EDIT1
Mmh in fact I will get no reward, because I can't use faucet and I need 1BBP to create cpk, right ?

EDIT2
Tired about that, bought some on graviex ...

Yes, I think you need 1-2 BBP to create CPK,
and I think you need another 1-2 BBP to associate your research account

The SouthXchange faucet is probably easiest to use, but its really low right now,
I sent them ticket to add some more BBP from my account

I think FreeFaucet.io hasnt upgraded their BiblePay wallet yet

Graviex has a faucet I donated to, but it ran out super quick, Ill set one up again

Thank you for testing, asking questions and providing feedback!

EDIT: Setup Graviext faucet, gives 10 BBP every 7 days: https://graviex.net/faucets/list

Healing Campaign
https://wiki.biblepay.org/BiblePay_Healing_Campaign

I tested this and it works, I think its a great guide

Minor bug, I did crash my wallet trying to send a diary entry before my "exec join healing" transaction reached enough confirmations

I noticed in Suns guide there are config settings:
https://whitewalr.us/2019/biblepay-gsc-healing.html

Are there rewards to tithing more than 1 BBP?
Are there rewards for coin-age? Is this sort of a smaller version of POG?

I'm sorry to see that you might have mined on a fork and lost some bbp mined off the main chain, but we must move forward.  Ill post my hypothesis.
First, note that in our 2 year history this is the first mandatory where the network required our users to upgrade before the mandatory cutover height.  We had an increase in our governance protocol version to 70750 from 70737, and when 60% of our sancs moved to 70750, the older biblepay clients stopped recognizing those sanctuaries as official, meaning they then need to upgrade early (or go on a fork) - this explains why 75% of our network upgraded 3 days early (we were shooting for Dec 26th and all this happened around Dec 23rd).

So apparently what happened is you mined on the prior version, 1 mil bbp on the low diff chain.  When you upgraded, all the blocks mined on the side chain got erased.  Notice how your outbound transaction to your mobile is orphaned also.  Thats because it was sent on a sidechain, and the txid is not on the main chain.

The reason your last mined transaction is in immature is because its not 120 deep yet but its probably officially mined.

Just run the client with -zapwallettxes=1 and restart and it will fleece the orphans out of the wallet - note it will remove all the mined and the outbound tx and leave all official txes.

Good luck going forward.

Is it possible in future display a message about necessary upgrades (or just about next available versions) right inside the wallet? May be as a Prayer Request, I don't know...

Also, I would like BiblePay to support a distributed computing project Rosetta@home

p.s. https://wiki.biblepay.org/PODC_Setup#PART_I:_Calculate_Rewards - so actually we can't calculate a reward for PoDC mining, right? I like charity and BOINC, please don't get me wrong, but for now I need to return my investments in hardware... Later (pls check my signature if you didn't do this yet) it will not have such a meaning for me like it has now...

In the past BiblePay has supported Rosetta@home, I assume it will be supported in the future, but we shall see

On the calculating rewards, I currently dont know how to calculate rewards, but there definitely is a way to do it, the setup guide just represents my own current limited knowledge

http://wiki.biblepay.org/BOINC_Researcher_Setup#PART_E_-_Calculate_Staking_and_Daily_Profit
this is the old guide on how to do it, its basically (Your RAC / Team RAC) * Daily Block Reward for PODC,
I dont know the Team RAC and Daily Block reward for PODC yet, but its being calculated somewhere,
once we figure it out Ill add it to the guide

Android mobile wallet version 1.4.8.5

- added new tithe feature screen

iOS version will come in a few days

Oh wow, this is awesome, we always wanted to be able to tithe to churches from the mobile (even though we have no official partners yet, who are churches).

So what we did to launch this is we entered a few 'partner' records in DSQL (from web.biblepay.org click on partners).  These are just our existing charities we already have a relationship with.

If someone clicks "Tithe" from the mobile wallet, they can give some extra BBP to one of those partners.
The idea is in the future, when we make a relationship with a church, we can add a DSQL record for the church, then the congregation can tithe with BBP.

Great work MIP, thanks!

Addressing the PODC reward question, we have a daily GSC superblock with 872K emitted to participants daily; about 40% goes to POOM/Healing and 60% to PODC.
So out of the daily emission of 550,000 bbp, that is split evenly by the RAC in WCG project.
Right now 1 point of RAC is very close to 1 BBP daily reward; if you go into the Leaderboard from qt, and look at all the rows starting with "WCG", notice that the "points" on those rows actually equal the researchers RAC.  So if someone has 1000 points, they have 1000 RAC.  Today 1000 RAC is paying about 1000 bbp per day.

Of course this changes as more competitors come in.

Ill have to look at the situation with Rosetta; we like them but they ran out of work a lot, and caused us to really break our necks trying to add WCG as a backup.  Now we have WCG primarily because they have about 10 different possible parallel projects to crunch - so Im hesitant to add complexity to PODC (by supporting multiple projects) - once you go that route then you have to have a dynamic ratio per RAC per project (as each RAC per project is not equal in cobblestones).  At least now, everyone is fairly stuck in WCG which is nice for competition and fairness.
