Hi,

I have a problem with Asus RX580 (TOP and OC) 8GB GPUs not showing up in Device Manager (Windows 10) and/or AtiFlash (-ai command), when attached to motherboard (AsRock H81 Pro BTC R2.0) via powered risers (ver006c, ver007s, ver008s). When I attach each card (TOP or OC) directly into PCI-E x16 slot, it shows up and works well. All risers are tested with PowerColor RX480 8GB on the same motherboard on each of x1 slots and everything works very well.

Have anyone had similar problems with these GPUs?

Thank you.

Make sure the riser is pushed in all the way. If the card works and the same riser works with other cards, then it should work.

Thank you for reply, but I tried that many times and nothing has changed.

When I turn off my rig, I see white led diode, turned on, near 8-pin power connector on my Asus Strix RX580 T8G (while directly on mobo 16x slot), but led is turned off, while connected via riser cable.

I think that is the source of the problem, GPU needs power before rig is powered on, to be detected by mobo's BIOS. Can someone confirm this?

I saw the another user on other forum have/had the same problem, with same card on different mobo.

Do someone saw this kind of problem, elsewhere? I can't send mobo back to AsRock because it detects all other cards except RX580 series or maybe only Asus Strix line of RX580 series. Smiley

Hi hagbase,

Thank you for reply. Do you have Asus Strix RX580 8GB in your rig? Did you connect them on MB via power risers? When the rig is powered off, do you see white led turned on, near 8-pin GPU power connector?

Sry don't own asus cards.

Yes all cards are connected with powered risers. Sapphire cards got also led lights and yes it is instant on.

According to Asrock support both extra 4 pin molex connectos  must be used, even with powered risers.
My cards work without  these extra connectos but i'm using this extra power, seems to be more stable.
Don't forget to switch off "Render Stand By" in mainboard bios.

Hi hagbase,

Thank you for your help. I already tried to: disable "Render Stand By", Change Primary GPU to PCI Express and disable Onboard audio, but nothing happens, still the same problem, GPUs not recognized in Windows while connected over powered risers.

Also, I tried not to use 4-pin molex's on MB, still the same, as well as to remove power connector from riser (at this point, GPU not even spin coolers and light is completely turned off).

When you said "instant", you thought at the moment you turn PSU switch on or at the moment you power the rig on? By the way, nice setup. Smiley

Yes as soon as i power on my psu my rig start up / boot  / auto login and start mining. It's a setting on mainboard bios.  Even without the setting, cards are instant on if i press power button.

Hi hagbase,

Yes, I know for that option in BIOS. Thank you, for information you have provided. I will understand if you are bored with my questions and don't want to answer on one more. Smiley

May you try to turn off that option and see if that leds are turned on, while you switch on your PSU, but do not turn on the rig?

In this case nothing happens until i press "power on" button, than again everything is instant on and rig starts to boot up.

Uninstall the amd drivers with ddu in save mode and reboot.
Then Windows automatically installs the Microsoft standart display drivers.
If you can see the card in the device manager now, you can use AtiFlash to flash a new BIOS ... maybe it´s a problem with the BIOS  Huh

Good luck !

Yes, I know, but until you press "power button" does this white leds shines or they are turned off? Thank you.

Yes, I tried all three options, Gen1, Gen2, Auto, but there is no any change. Thank you, FFI2013.

Yes, I tried to ddu drivers, both, from safe mode and normal mode, but there is no difference, same result GPU on riser is not recognized but if same card put on x16 port directly everything works fine (as you sad, Windows installs Microsoft Standard Display Drivers).

I also tried to flash BIOS of both GPUs (TOP and OC) back to original and than to put them on risers, but without success, only the GPU put directly in x16 slot is regularly shown in device manager.

Thank you all, for your suggestions. I am going to try x16 slot "doubler"
http://http[Suspicious link removed]lec.com/eerxb16.jpg
because both GPUs works well directly on pci-e x16 slot. Or I will try to sell one of them (TOP or OC) and buy any other vendor RX580.

If someone have any other suggestion, I would like to conclude what is happening here.

Any update here?  I got some 1070 ti cards that also aren't detected via risers, but they work on x16 slots on board. I've checked the risers and they work with other brands.

Hi shad0wt1tan,

Which brand of 1070s and MB? I think I will need to sell one of mine 580s because I can't pair it with any other via risers.
