Optiminer 2.0 is great, but unstable af.

I'm running 6x1060 6GB rig powered by EthOS v1.2.5 (Linux ###### 4.8.17-ethos49 #6 SMP Tue Aug 29 23:24:18 CDT 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux), Nvidia driver version: 384.47
Optiminer 2.0 runs with no errors, the performance is really impressive (equihash96_5), BUT... it works only half an hour max and then HDD led glows red (not blinking), nothing happens, system hanged and unresponsive. So I hit reset, os and the miner loads up... 10-20 minutes and it hangs again...  NO ERRORS, NO NOTHING.. hashrate just drops to zero and then hang occurs. Perhaps my Core2Quad Q9450 cpu is too weak for this miner idk, if so, tell me is there a way to exclude cpu from mining process? Oh and could you please explain --pci-modes there are four, right? which one is best for pcie2.0 system? Thanks in advance.

How match ksols does this rig?

I haven't tried mxminer on these gpus. But, I was using mxminer2.0 on my windows machine which is i7-6850K (@4.2/3.8gHz AVX)+GTX1080 -> 12 Threads + CUDA (Intensity 128) = 1.4-1.7kSol, yeah, optiminer just creams mxminer. If only it was more stable and less cpu dependent it would be the best miner for equihash96.5

I just tried the miner at work and I get the following error on Ubuntu16:

[GPU0] Device info: {"id": "0/0" "name": "GeForce GT 730" "platform": "Nvidia" "driver": "387.12"}
ptxas fatal   : SM version specified by .target is higher than default SM version assumed

Any ideas? I cannot test on my GTX1070 as I am on Windows on all my rigs

It has to do with SM version being too low. But I am still waiting for the dev to confirm this. I had the same problem with GTX 560 Ti, which works for mining Bitcoin Gold for example with EWBF Cuda Miner 0.3.4b BTG. Of course the hashrate what I get is desperate Smiley

Minimum SM version is 61 for Nvidia cards. So, only never cards are supported at the moment.

Windows version will take a bit more time, probably in a month.

If you have stability problems please make sure that the cards do not overheat. Try to reduce the mem/core clocks.

All that the CPU does is verify the hash of the found equihash solutions. Because of the extreme solution rate achieved with equihash96/5 on multi-card rigs this by itself uses a significant amount of CPU resources. Higher intensity should reduce CPU usage a bit (fewer opencl calls needed).

I was running stock clocks. Card temps are 40-55c.

I tried that by the way (i 128), didn't help; The miner still hangs the system.

ps: what's the max intensity value accepted by miner? set it to 256 just now, let's see how long will it take before hang.

Update: It seems you were right about increased intensity, not a single hang for 3 hours so far) Thanks a lot!

Update2: hanged after 5h. intensity increased to 384. cpu load is still high (3 cores 100% load) and it's always like that, regardless of solution rate.

I've noticed that the miner consumes continiuesly all avaliable memory and than when it ends, the system hangs.

I didn't notice no memory leak.

Good news: I think I have been able to reproduce the problem of increasing memory usage. Do you get a lot of stale shares?

Bad news: Your CPU is likely too slow to fully unleash the mining powers of all your GPUs.

The next version of optiminer will throttle the GPUs when it detects that the CPU cannot validate all the solutions found (there is no point in producing more solutions on the GPUs than the CPU can consume).
Consider upgrading the CPU or mining something else on a subset of the GPUs. You can also try to run 2 instances of the miner with on two sets of GPUs (use -d to specify which ones), this might help if you have more than 2 cores as the miner only uses 2 threads for processing solutions. Also --pci-mode 0 might to not run out of memory with v2.0.

CPU is quad core Q9450 running at 2ghz (2.66 stock). I tried oc it a bit, to 3.2ghz.. didn't change anything except higher power consumption.

Yes. Cpu load is like that all the time, right after I run the miner, although rising intensity makes it work longer smh (compared to autodetected -i 128, that works for only 30-45 minutes).. -i 384 lasted 11 and a half hours. I've set to -i 480 now, idk when its gonna hang.

oh and sometimes it says "Concurrent write detected. queueing." in the log. What's that about?
