Can I currently mine with this old GPU tech?

Hi everyone - I'm a newbie and ive caught the mining bug. Apologies if any of my questions seem dated....

So I have a couple of amd radeon hd 5970 2gb cards. They've served me well, good in their day. Is it still feasible to mine with these currently. I'd only need to invest in a board and some risers as I have everything else needed to set up a rig. I'd be happy to let it sit there and plug away if it was able to make a profit. I'm not expecting them to mine half as well as the newer efficient cards, but I haven't currently the money to invest in the cards i'd like to have, I'm hoping these cards would help me get there...I thought they'd make good entry level cards for me to learn how to mine. What do you think?

If you're electricity is cheap enough for it to be profitable then it'd be worth it. Especially if you invest in a motherboard you can add new cards to in the future.

I guess you may give at try. Check monero or ETN or SUMO for the cryptonight algo.
Those old card should be do very okish for that coin, I think they will bring $20-40 per month.
So if you lucky enough to sell what have you mined on pump )

ok thanks for the info guys. I've been sifting through sites for days gathering info, but they were quite old articles. Struggled to find anything recent about these cards, so was wondering whether they were still supported or if they no longer mined efficiently these days. If they're only likely to mine something like 40 dollars a month between them, its probably not worth the bother because of the electric expense. Shame, would have been good to recycle the cards...i'll have to find some better cards that draw less power and make the switch to NVidia.

I'll get a setup together and plug them in anyway to crunch some numbers and learn the art of mining. I'm still interested in what they're capable of achieving, and I suppose if I go full maniac and break one from overclocking, it wont matter so much....
