Positive effects:

a) Bitcoin value pumps before fork
b) Free coins for bitcoin holders

Negative effects:

a) May claim to be the 'true' bitcoin
b) Promotes bogus wallets designed to steal coins
c) Potentially creates confusion for new investors
d) Can split the community
