I'm just wondering when a thread in the Off-topic section crosses the line and shouldn't be considered something "that might be of interest to bitcoiners".

As some of you may know, there is a member apparently using this forum to write the first draft of his autobiography and, even though I sympathize with him and understand his desire to express himself, I really don't see why it "might be of interest to bitcoiners".

Of course, I know that, technically, anything might interest bitcoiners, but does that mean that no topic is so far off the mark that it shouldn't be broadcast to forum members?

Still around.

In order to get the maximum amount of activity points possible, you just need to post once per day on average. Skipping days is OK as long as you maintain the average.

Pretty much anything that is within the rules is suited as in Off-topic is talking NOT about the topic of bitcoin. Simple as that.

That was my original take, but then I thought, shouldn't the description read "Any topic other than Bitcoin" instead of "Other topics that might be of interest to bitcoiners" if that was the case?

Still around.

The keyword there is "might", I'm pretty sure anything goes in that section.

You do have a point there, description implies there is a limit to how off topic it can get. I do remove referral spam for whatever site of the month people are pushing, but other than that I see no need to moderate it heavily.

Thanks tysat and BadBear, that's just about the response I was anticipating. I was just curious about moderators' viewpoints; I have no difficulty tuning out the thread that prompted this one.

I wonder how far one could push it, though. If I started posting thousand word monologues daily describing the adventures of my pet goldfish and actively discouraged participation by other forum members, how far would I be allowed to go? As long as it was entertaining? Until it began annoying a moderator? Indefinitely?

Sorry, I had too much time to think about this today.  Tongue

- Topics should not be pointless.
- Topic creation should not be annoying. There should not be too many topics about the same thing in a short time period, and individuals should not post too many topics. "Too many" depends on the quality of the topics.

Okay, that has got to be the most subjective set of guidelines I have ever read.  Cheesy

Still around.

Not sure. I did tell that if it is, mods or I would close it.

We need a new subforum... Pointless and/or annoying thread accusations. Depending on interpretation of the title, you could move most responses on the forum there.
