To say Megacoin is a copycat of anything would be wildly naive. All this tells me is hotcoldcoin needs to understand what he's talking about before making failed assertions. Notice he didn't include FTC in these lists? What an ultramaroon.  Tongue

Here is a good thread that talks about Testnet.

I definitely agree that a well-designed auctionhouse would be the perfect next step (just as pretty as the megacoin website).

I am curious, have any of you cheerleaders actually looked at the Gravity Well code and put any analysis into how it will behave?  Or do you just blindly assume it will fix all of your problems?

It looks to me that every time the coin becomes marginally profitable to mine, middlecoin, multipool, or the cgwatcher miners will switch to it, the difficulty will quickly spike, profitability will drop, and then no one will mine it for days.  Transactions will linger unconfirmed, users will get fed up, and supporters will flee or demand yet another hard-fork.

One MEC supporter on the multipool thread actually said:
Quote
It may actually cause some problems for multipool because it will only be able to mine a few blocks before the difficulty quickly adjusts.
Is that really a good thing?  To have your difficulty quickly spike any time someone mines it, making it completely undesirable to mine?

Having looked at the code, and run some numbers, I honestly believe that MEC is in for a long slow unproductive mine like it had at block 42000, but instead it will happen every week after 63005.

Because I want mec to be a profitable coin to mine, and I would like to see a lot of these smaller coins succeed.
When I found and reported a bug with the wdc retarget change at block 600,000, the dev was able to confirm it, fix it, test it, and deploy it before it became a disaster.  More people looking at these changes before they go into effect is a good thing for the coin's evolution.
By your response, I assume you have not examined or even questioned how this update will work?

I for one appreciate everyone's input, positive or negative. If this is a problem, what's wrong with pointing it out?
And if he's wrong, I'd like to hear why.

The goal was to dissuade multipool low diff pillaging and offer quick difficulty adjustment to match the network hash rate.

I think if you look at it again you would realize your predictions are in error.  The design will not only spike quickly to meet a high hash rate but fall quickly from a high diff situation to match a low hash rate.

WDC is a basket case, and I'm sure they need your help.  Wink

If you really believe Kimoto doesn't know what he's doing, then your point is moot, isn't it? If you are able to just look at the code and tell us the exact results, you are way sharper than any programmer, developer, or rocket engine scientist I've ever met.  Roll Eyes I don't believe anything other than a smoke test will give absolute confirmation. I believe Kimoto said more than once that he has done extensive testing... I think it's safe to say that no one else knows exactly how this update will work.

If you are so brilliant, please share with us any better coin you have developed?

actually I also didn't find too much information on it apart from the fact that it's gravity and tractor beams pulling in megacoin logos. It's good if everyone who knows what he's doing has a look at the code, although at this point we can't do much more than wait how it will turn out. If I look at that sourcecode it looks like fruit loops to me so I'm definitely worthless for that task. Cheesy
