Hi guys, I just started using Electrum. I heard this was the best desktop wallet, however, versions 3.0+ won't open. Nothing happens, no error, nothing, it simply doesn't open. I downloaded version 2.9.3 and it worked fine.
Can I keep using 2.9.3 or is it unsafe?

If you're not getting any visual errors, it could somehow be related to the issue mentioned on their github repository over here: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/3290 and here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2395038.0. Try running the portable verison and test if that one runs fine.

It's very safe to use 2.9.3 until you've not converted your wallet to the new segwit format, which I believe you might not have since your application wasn't able to start, and when it did it'd have asked you for a prompt to do so. So, you can continue to use 2.9.3, and make sure you report your issue on their github page.

This is same as my experienced are you using windows 7? I think the latest version of electrum could only work in windows 10 below in that OS version latest wallet will not work even the portable version however you can  be still use the low version of electrum its working fine to me i still didn't update mine but i was waiting for new electrum wallet that can use segwit wallet..
I had other alternative but i don't think it could be safe.. if you have your own account in aws you can run ec2  to run RDP with free tier  its works fine to me linux or the  windows server 2016 but make sure that you are the only one who knows your private keys and seeds .
For other alternative way is to upgrade your computer to the latest windows OS or install linux instead..
