I am using an electrum wallet. The problem is if I close my wallet it disappears altogether. The wallet file is still on my laptop but I cannot open it. I tried to fix it to my task bar and it works. How would I open my wallet file from my laptop. If I click on it windows 10 does not know what program to use opening it.

Can someone direct me where to find the solution?

On electrum it would always be possible to recover the wallet using your seed/private keys, therefore, there's no excessive need to worry about the wallet.dat, however it indeed seems to me that something is wrong.

I'm assuming you're using the default windows electrum wallet?

What happens when you open up electrum? It should open a prompt to select a wallet.dat, right?

You need a client to open those wallet file/s. Did you use a standalone executable? Because this one doesn't go through any installation process so no shortcuts can't be found. You only need the .exe file to open it. Meanwhile the Windows Installer as exactly as it says it installs and creates shortcuts and registry entries for you.

Since the wallet files is still on your laptop, Just download standalone executable or windows installer [Pick which one suits you] and you can access your wallet/s again since both of them opens the wallet on %appdata%/Electrum by default
