It was some work but here it is. The development of the money supply of 2014 for HBN, CAP, TEK and HYP, all of them HighPOS coins.

I wondered how fast does this money supply increases for these coins? After all, interest rates varying from 100% till 750% is quite unheard of.
Well, check it out yourself, on the first of every month you'll find the block and the moneysupply at that exact moment. So everyone can check this if they like.
The last figure is the important one. There you find how much the supply has increased in a month. First HBN:

      HBN 100%POS
                Block   MoneySupply   Increase/mth
1-1-2014   461136   2330766      26,0%
1-2-2014   550116   2778403      19,2%
1-3-2014   630790   3206341      15,4%
1-4-2014   719789   3671800      14,5%
1-5-2014   806508   4106540      11,8%
1-6-2014   898413   4629448      12,7%
1-7-2014   988559   5068546      9,5%
1-8-2014   1080369   5521192      8,9%
1-9-2014   1173120   5985846      8,4%
1-10-2014   1262548   6467925      8,1%

HBN is in line with previous observations: the monthly increase of the money supply is quite low and getting lower every month.

      CAP 200%POS
                Block   MoneySupply   Increase/mth
1-1-2014   271241   2416978      18,4%
1-2-2014   315427   2709892      12,1%
1-3-2014   355404   2928686      8,1%
1-4-2014   399401   3170570      8,3%
1-5-2014   432912   3420718      7,9%
1-6-2014   476848   3680285      7,6%
1-7-2014   519426   4046888      10,0%
1-8-2014   565946   4812616      18,9%
1-9-2014   613331   5583618      16,0%
1-10-2014   662054   6367469      14,0%

For CAP, the increase is higher, reflecting a higher POS percentage. But also dropping. Interesting to see: POS-rate change from 1% to 200% in July.

      TEK 500%POS
                Block   MoneySupply   Increase/mth
1-1-2014   167445   203260      54,8%
1-2-2014   211821   281447      38,5%
1-3-2014   251768   387792      37,8%
1-4-2014   295710   533996      37,7%
1-5-2014   338564   715259      33,9%
1-6-2014   382532   986066      37,9%
1-7-2014   425505   1349745      36,9%
1-8-2014   469608   1830289      35,6%
1-9-2014   514595   2113023      15,4%
1-10-2014   569714   2421990      14,6%

TEK looks different. High increase and hardly any decline. Except for the last 2 months. But that's due to Fork issues. For 1-11, expect it back at around 35% again.

      HYP 750%POS
                Block   MoneySupply   Increase/mth
1-1-2014
1-2-2014
1-3-2014
1-4-2014
1-5-2014
1-6-2014
1-7-2014   27154   8485253
1-8-2014   44901   10557791   24,4%
1-9-2014   74355   14826453   40,4%
1-10-2014   103019   22309537   50,5%

HYP looks different again. It seems the monthly increase is highest of all and is still increasing as well.
I say still because the block chain is young and increasing increase with a fixed percentage is impossible.
I checked today and from 1-10 till today the percentage is already stabilizing somewhere between 45%-50%.

So quite amazing to see this all happening.
I'll update these figures on a monthly bases and let me know what you think!

this is interesting and i think you will find relates to the "velocity" "absorption" of liquid units - i.e the "popularity"  will probably see a declining value - but will be interesting to see ?

I agree, I think continuous high monthly increase of the money supply is likely to have an eroding effect on the value in the long run. And yes, I am also very curious whether it happens like that at all and if it does, in what pace.

Great analysis. Thanks for taking the time to figure this out, it is very interesting. Much in line with what I was expecting, but I never put any hard numbers on it.

This is working as designed. If you only have the Minimize on close checked, it will still allow you to minimize to the task bar using the minimize button. If you use the close button it goes to the tray.

But as you noted just the "Minimize to system tray" basically enables both.

It both makes sense and could be adjusted.

The code to do this is simple.

Code:
void BitcoinGUI::closeEvent(QCloseEvent *event)
{
    if(clientModel)
    {
#ifndef Q_OS_MAC // Ignored on Mac
        if(!clientModel->getOptionsModel()->getMinimizeToTray() &&
           !clientModel->getOptionsModel()->getMinimizeOnClose())
        {
            qApp->quit();
        }
#endif
    }
    QMainWindow::closeEvent(event);
}

All that would need to be done is to remove the getMinimizeToTray from that if statement, and only the one check box will allow the X to minimize.

FYI BTC at current version has not changed this at all.

Thanks for looking into it Tranz.  I am just going by my user experience.  If one of the two items are checked, I would expect only one of them to "fire".

hmm - indeed, but it gets more complex.

continuous demand will extrapolate an "equilibrium" but only if the dynamics of the "Random" PoW are sound.

Awesome work, thanks for taking the time and effort to do it all!
The take away for me:

HBN - Low increase, probably understaked, most of the supply probably still coming from PoW (I think Tranz ran some numbers on this a few months back).  Will HBN ever become a heavily staked coin or will PoW always be the main element of growth?

CAP - You can really see the impact of the hard fork, a large jump in supply growth. But surprisingly it starts calming down pretty quickly and continues with mild growth now.

TEK - Probably should be 30-35% growth still but the borked hard fork that sent the PoS rate as low as 100% can clearly see to have impacted supply growth, and also the fact that PoS was not working for nearly a month.

HYP - Still filling in the coin supply with rapid growth. My expectation is that the coming months the rate will slow down, the difficulty will go up, and the max PoS reward will be more effective in controlling growth.

But highPOS comes with a potential problem as well: High inflation because coins are multipling themselves, 1 becomes 2 and then 4, 8, 16, 32 etc. Before you know it, the coin supply gets bigger exponentially, which will eventually force their value down in the same pace.
On a related note ("premine scam"), you might be interested in this reading: The virtues of inflation. Here I mention how perpetual inflation stops the accusations of premine that we keep hearing in most high-PoS. Whoisthelorax (devtome) I believe, considering your massive investigation, that you will be interested in reading it too.

Hey Y'all - I've been throwing some icon ideas together on Github:

https://github.com/izzzaya/bottlecaps-iconography

I've included some of the visuals created for @bottlecapsbuzz on the Tweeter.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

ReydeApio: I not watched all of them, nice work but maybe more "classic" design better?

I think these are pretty good.  The only one I am not a huge fan of is  cap_32x.png and cap_32px.png, otherwise I do like them.

@5ick3uffalo

Can you be more specific? What do you man by classic design?

Without going into a rant about skeuomorphism my annoyance with the current one is that the three lines of text vanish at smaller sizes. I can modify the 24.4* rotation of the B:

https://github.com/izzzaya/bottlecaps-iconography/blob/master/CAP_shadow.png

My view on BottleCaps primary use is multiplying BottleCaps/BTC so I dont mind the comparison between the two. One BottleCap becomes Three, the concept is simple. With other PoW/PoS ____coins, insiders mined PoW and reaped the benefits of the PoS growth. We are all insiders and anyone is welcome mine or reap the benefits of PoS - complete transparency without the miner/insider dump risk.

What does ____Coin mean to someone not involved with Cryptocurrency?

Millions in VC has gone into BTC this past year and outside of Bitcoin's name recognition the hoi polloi has limited knowledge of Crypto/Blockchain. I'm not one looking for a myriad of ways to 'use' CAPs. BottleCaps are real, you can easily associate sensory experience with memories of a physical object. As a physical object the word 'Bottle Cap' translates into most every language, (Thank you Coke/Pepsi/Beer.) I know what a BottleCap sounds like when it bounces across a table top or rubs against coins in my pocket. I've even attempted to explain the basiscs of Cryptocurrency using the visual of a BottleCap.

Some usability dude once said that, "seeing is a metaphor for understanding" - I 'see' the potential of BottleCaps.

Seems like you have some marketing ideas too. Would like to hear 'em Smiley

Overall, I'd really like to see a large community effort for some of these older, technically solid high PoS coins. I tried to see if there would be interest in a group IRC for several coins (say #hiPoS or something), but didn't really get any responses.

I agree about the idea but I think that people need someone to get it started Crazyloaf and that would get more people involved. At the moment its just an idea you have mentioned, it needs a bit more to get it started. Maybe aim at getting something in particular done and ask for collaboration on a joint IRC. At the moment there's a lot of collaboration between HBN, CAP and HYPER but this is in coding, it would be good to get members of the communities to join in together as well. These coins all share a base of good fundamentals in wallets/coding, community cross overs would be a great thing to implement as well.  Also for CAP in particular there needs to be more done to get new people involved. Some promotions and things like that, Tranz is around and still developing but there really needs to be more community promotion by members. I feel like there are a few people just sitting back and not getting involved. It would be good to see this change or at least get some new members on board. If interested maybe you, me and reyde could get some promotional ideas going, although I'm not sure if you are more interested in trading/looking for new investments ect but it would be nice to at least get some discussions going in this thread.

Is there a bootstrap that I can download so I don't have to reload/sync the entire blockchain?

I managed to find the font that was originally used for the bottle cap logo and did a mockup vector image.Not sure if its any help for the icon development but just incase, I've uploaded a higher quality version of the CAP icon on imgr:

Link to larger file here:https://i.imgur.com/D9XXjZP.png

It's a .png file/export but I also have the vector file in inkscape if anyone wants it. I couldn't replicate the smudging effect but it looks a bit cleaner anyway and scaleable to higher quality. Not sure if its of use for the icons but thought it would put it out there just incase. A little while ago I was bored and got the lower quality logo printed off on on a red bottle cap, turned out kinda cool. Anyway, I best get back to writing this essay thats due tomorrow..

Is there a bootstrap that I can download so I don't have to reload/sync the entire blockchain?
I have the updated block chain that I could upload, I haven't uploaded a bootstrap before, can anyone tell me where's the best place to upload it for free?
