What major coin to buy with paper money and which new coins are promising?

Hello, I have some money saved and managed to get it to an exchange. It has been sitting there for a while and I see it melting away against bitcoin yet everytime I wanna buy it gets more expensive.
What major coin do you suggest I buy now, this ethereum sounds like a stupid thing to buy but then it has a high volume and low price for some reason?
Is there a coin you can suggest to me? I will hold it for at least 6 months.

Exact, ethereum has high trade volume and low price. I have been holding with ethereum since probably six months, but it is still at low rate.
I just moved my ethereum to bitcoin and it is 10% profit in no more than three days.
I would suggest you too hold in bitcoin as the average investors speculate $8k-$10k within a month or two.

for couple months the biggest star that will shine would be Bitcoin,
there're a lot of news happened and caused the price to fly high.
many people thought the same way like you,they're hesitating to get into it because it's 'quite' high and in the end they're missing the train.
but in reality if you can hold it,it's not really high compared to its true value i believe.
Bitcoin price keep increasing due to promise from the CME group's to list it in their futures.
also a couple days ago we heard about cancelation of segwit2x,
people felt relief about this news and they're believe the price will be pumping to around $10.000 and others.

for now i do not recommend you to buy anything else than Bitcoin,
because it's time for Bitcoin to take another move and i believe with that there'll be another bloodbath with altcoins.

The most profitable coin that you can buy with your own money is bitcoin, maybe you were expecting to have other kind of reply, but bitcoin will always be the most profitable crypto, and if you are looking to make profits and to have it safe on your wallet, then why dont you just buy bitcoins and keep them there on your wallet for some time?
A lot of people are doing this at the moment because bitcoin is going up like crazy, and this is a nice opportunity for if you want to make profit without worrying about the prices, just like you would have to do if you have altcoins on your portfolio.

How did the answers change since I asked this question? I mean right now bitcoin has a very low price and all the other coins went down with it. Any resilient coins that might be back up faster?

Stop asking these kind of questions and rely on yourself. No one could know if the price of certain coin will pump or dump. They will all tell you to buy coins they are already holding and want to advertise it to more people so the price surge and they benefit the most which is called 'shilling'.
Right now is a good time to buy as the market is so underpriced and we are heading towards a bull market.
I advise you to check the top 20 coins on Coinmarketcap and pick the ones that have a great product ,stop focusing on the high market cap as a bad thing .Low market cap dosn't mean the coin will be big or reach any higher number in the future.

No one could ever be sure about any of the coins that which one’s price is going to rise in future. It is just our fate. People telling you about the top coin, will only be sharing their point of view or their personal experience. It doesn’t guarantee that things will be the same for you as they were for them, may be you couldn’t get any benefit from a coin using which someone became a millionaire. It’s just what’s the trend going on in the market or what the world seemed to be interested in for a better economic culture around.
