https://twitter.com/pierre_rochard/status/931543204687765504it's proven itself to be a miserable goddamn failure and it would've been a true danger to bitcoin's functionality, not that anyone in their right mind was ever gonna make the switch anyway. it's incredible it got as far as it did. it ain't going any further for now.

It was clear that segwit2x would happen even after the official cancellation as released by the segwit2x dev mailing list simply because miners love speculation, and a bitcoin fork is always an opportunity to speculate with their hashrate. It will be another pump and dump, or maybe not even that.

this proves the importance of hashrate or lack thereof! until they mine an actual block with bigger size on top of 494782 which was mined ~4 hours ago, i say no fork has happened. so far the btc1 nodes which are running the SegWit2x compatible client are all stuck on 494782 block height. right now some clients (152 nodes) are rejecting blocks, and isolating themselves from the rest of the network and not doing anything more than that!

Obviously they weren't actually serious about segwit2x (unlike BCH which was properly planned and executed). So why did they leave it so late to announce that segwit2x wasn't happening? To entice people into buying bitcoin (and pushing up the price) to get their "free coins"?

There is a lot of confused people about this. The explanation is simple: Segwit2x was supposed to happen around November 18th, 2017 at block 494784. Due the decreased hashrate, the remaining annoying idiots that will still fork it have a very small amount of hashrate, which means the fork will be delayed up to 5 days, so if you want to dump the S2X coins, you will have to wait for a couple of days. In any case, this has no effect already, I doubt any exchange will list it or have any value at all.

So a new altcoin is born. A tad too hyped i'd say, judging by the outcome ...
