Hey people.

So I'm quite an old bitcoiner. I'm not going to say that btc is dead or whatever.
BTC first strength is its fame, the fact is that everyone know about btc cause it's king and first crypto ever.

But I have a question: is there anything that objectively makes BTC better than Monero?

After checking I don't see any cons to Monero:
-Better privacy
-ASIC resistant
-Automatic scalability

I don't see any cons. I get why BTC price > Monero price  simply because BTC has more fame, but I don't see any real technical reason why it's the case.

Am I missing anything?

I think you are right, technically monero is a better coin but it was too late to join the party. Bitcoin has won the fame game so it will continue to reign - undeservedly.

The truth is Bitcoin is a shitty coin, slow, and expensive.  If we are going to evaluate BTC overall its not a good coin. But because people used to it, because of fame and number of investors, BTC remains number one.  It cannot be replaced by BCH or other coins.

Monero has some drawbacks.  I’m not a techy person, but I’ve been following development of the Exodus Wallet, and it appears that Monero is very difficult to build a light wallet for.  To get full advantage of Monero, you have download a full node, from what I understand.

But I do agree Monero is better overall.

Can it unseat Bitcoin?  Probably not.  But I think something will eventually unseat BTC.  It’s like Kodak or Microsoft.  At one time they were kings of their industry, and no one could compete.  But things change.  Kodak is dead, and Microsoft can’t make a decent mobile OS... BTC is pretty stagnant, by design, which gives room for something else to surpass it.

On the technical side, Monero is superior to bitcoin, but I think that the Monero community is quite weak and so its cost is small.

ohw man you missed fucking fees on monero those are killing buisnes.
Last time i wanted move coins it took me like 0.5 xmr fee for moving 100 xmr Cheesy true story.
So at log run that privacy is only thing that BTC not have yet but it is coming with LN and stuff like that.
If you think about pumps XMR is stil viable but BTC is safest crypto to invest.

You are not missing anything but to get the whole world perception shifted from BTC to any other coin all at once is a tremendous task and one that will is unlikely to happen ever. If it does it will take some grand rallying of

effort.

Technically, no bitcoin isn't superior. But it has first movers advantage, and big investors are hesitant to change.

Monero in comparison with Bitcoin has completely invisible transactions. They are complitely private, monero coin will never have scalability problems. Transactions confirmed at least 5 times faster that in Bitcoin network. Monero underlying technology is better in every way, except one significant parameter - it must be adopted to the market. We all know that electric cars are reliable, ecologic, cheaper in exploitation, but the world continues to use old cars with petrol engines.

Ok so what you people more or les say is... BTC is not better than Monero in any way it's just more famous?

Isn't that a bit sad? I thought I misunderstood something or that I missed something important...
That means that when you give people the choice they just choose the most famous coin and not in any way the best?
That's just... Sad.
I hope there is another reason for that otherwise... Well I'll go all in in Monero for a start and I'll bit very upset about btc ^^

Yup BTC is not better than XMR,  it just happened that Bitcoin comes first nothing more than that.  BTC's features is no match to XMR's anonymously, also no match for ETH's ability to create ERC20 coins.  Again its just famous and we have no choice but to ride because the world is holding it.

Bitcoin to me is like the iPhone. It was first to market with some revolutionary designs, features, huge media exposure and it jumped out to a huge lead. By the time the competition caught up and started launching similar products, iPhone already had a cult-like following.
iPhone now implements new features after their competition does and doesn't do anything better than the competition, but it is still king and will be for a long time....resting on it's name and people not understanding anything else other than iPhone.

Nothing will ever touch Microsoft either, not matter how many Linux distros there may be, no matter how OSX may tweak. Microsoft is forever entrenched in the business world and provides a full, global solution.

Bitcoin is moving in the direction of Microsoft and the iPhone and the competition is going to have to offer something game-changing to close that gap or take over.

All of the advantages that BCH touts are as of now, theoretical. People more technical than me have explained why and I won't pretend to know what the truth is. They are also not revolutionary changes.

Once core gets lightning network and Schnorr signatures and the other plans for improving the transaction speed, look out. That timing along with the more mainstream adoption by CME, Man Group and likely ETFs to follow will make it very, very tough for anyone to catch it.

Monero is a coin with better features than bitcoin where we might see it in couple of years, who knows. Bitcoin has the top title just now but as more and more people are learning about cryptos we could see a change.

You know what is funny about your Microsoft point? Microsoft is invested in Ethereum, so we have Apple vs Microsoft in crypto according to you. Cheesy

Seriously though, that analogy is spot on. Bitcoin is like the iPhone. Only the iPhone is the phone reinvented, and Bitcoin is money reinvented (and a lot more important). While many other coins do even cooler/better stuff than Bitcoin does today, it still has a cult following and the number one brand by far and nothing seems to be able to even come close to stopping it right now.

Wow, I didn't know that about Apple and Ethereum. Thanks for posting that. Very interesting!

I think many of the alts like Monero will succeed and are succeeding and have a path of less resistance because of BTC paving the way.

I'm all for whatever strengthens crypto. There's plenty of room.

actually bitcoin has a lot of features but it also has not good aspects such as expensive, slow transaction and then it also not true anonymous. Bitcoin transaction and bitcoin balance still can be tracked by all people while  monero is true anonymous coin.

The truth is, there is a lot of other crypto currency that is better than Bitcoin

But the thing here is bitcoin is the original crypto currency, even with a lot of better altcoins, they will still stick up for bitcoin.

Here for example is the feature of BCH :

  • Fast: Transactions are completed in seconds and confirmed within minutes.

Reliable: The BCH network runs without congestion, and is scalable to handle further demand in the future.

Low Fees: Send money globally for pennies.

Simple: Easy to use, regardless of your level of experience with cryptocurrencies.

Stable: It’s a payment system that functions as a proven store of value.

Secure: Bitcoin Cash relies on the bitcoin blockchain (a forked version), described as the “world’s most robust blockchain technology.”

Way better than bitcoin right? still bitcoin is at the top.

Even if the price are so high many people continue to invest in Bitcoin and we all know that btc is the father of cryptocurrency that's the reason it still the no. 1 in all digital cash but in other scenario you have a point that btc now a day are so slow in transaction, and the fee are so expensive while monero still a good altcoin the transaction are fast and in the last few week the price of monero are increase that's why I would still believe that most people using Monero to holding for a long term.

Monero is no match for Bitcoin, like at all. XMR is a minor part of the crypto market, which is pretty much controlled at the whim of BTC being exchanged for it - because if Bitcoin wasn't around then XMR would die, that's just how it goes.

I don't know how you can even ask this question though, XMR is a small shitty while BTC is the king of the entire industry who controls it all.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think bitcoin is miles ahead in terms of security. With that said, I prefer Monero with other characteristics and I'm definitely highly bullish of it. If only they had a mobile wallet, it would be a lot easier for people to get in to. It's just that bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency that's why it's at the top. It's also the cryptocurrency with most media attention.

Monero is a good coin. But bitcoin is the king of cryptocurrency. I am not a bitcoin minimalist I also trust other coins on some point so it is this is what condensing is all about, store monero and store in btc.

as you said
monero is superior to bitcoin in terms of technology.

but bitcoin is the mother of cryptocurrency
and the public mostly knew bitcoin first than monero (XMR)

oh 1 more thing
bitcoin has obtained legalization from several countries
this makes a big difference between bitcoin and monero.
