No, and it would be kind of a waste of good hashpower.

It makes much more sense to merged mine it.

Right, but in a non merged environment I suppose I could mine more NMC.

So, you can mine BTC and NMC, or, you could just mine the same ammount of NMC without the BTC...Kinda seems like a no brainer
