Main options include:

Cloud mining on sites like hashnest (watch out for ponzis and other scam sites though).

Investments in trading bots or online casinos to get a good profit.

Also, you can lend for colateral.

Creating a portfolio does not really depend on your capital. I don't think you will get a lof of serious awnsers to such a question here.
A lot of people will probably promote their own coin/token. If you are looking for a halfway stable investment i would recommend to look at
https://coinmarketcap.com and chose some of the top 15. I'd recommend to invest the most of your capital into BTC and maybe ETH.
But you should definetly keep away from Bitcoin Cash and from Bitcoin Gold. Those forks have been basically just created to scam people.
Those will crash pretty soon.

Ah! If it's altcoins you want it is strategy dependent:
1. Low risk: ltc, btc, ETH - all with fairly stable prices in comparison to each other.
2. High risk: mainly ICOs will be considered in this. I'd do your research before starting with this and check lots of information about coins. This is a bit more time specific and I don't want to recommend anything in case it instantly tanks as soon as the ico ends.
3. Use coins that normally get pumped/dumped randomly. Ones like Doge that can then be sold for a much higher value later on.

You're saying cloud mining scams as a legendary member, that's unusual. It's very well known that so called cloud mining websites are totally scams. Online casinos are places to lose money obviously.

With $1000 or amounts under this, I would get some ethereum in long run.

You could buy coins and hold it for a while and then sell it when you are happy with the profit. For what coins to buy you need to do your own research so that you wo'nt blame others. There are also ICO that has great potential to be huge in the future.

But if you are familiar with trading, then this is the way to go you can earn a lot in cryptocurrency trading but of course you could lose a lot of money as well.

Just always remember that in any type of investment there are always risk involve.

If you know nothing about trading then better to invest on BTC. That's a great starting amount for a newbie like you, and while you are investing start learning more about cryptocurrency and how to earn more bitcoin. Bitcoin is good for long term you will not regret this decision for sure.

Firstly, I see nowhere that every cloud mining site is a scam. I signed up to hashnest.com the month before joining here and they've done quite well. I can't say a site will never scam as there is risk with everything. Mainly the scam sites were ponzis. With additions of sites like hashocean.com and sites similar to that.

Also, it's factually incorrect to say everyone who goes to an inline casino loses. You can invest in the casino's bankroll and get a profit on your money.

I agree with your opinion that people will just promote their coin. Thats right.
Better we go to legit and independent site when give review.
Coinmarketcap is good choice.
But i dont understand why you still call bch scam? Since i see it has good price.

That will be a spoonfeed and what if the suggested coins will not meet your expectations, will you blame someone here?

Remember that even top 20 coins on Coinmarketcap listing are experiencing a hard volatility that might wreck your strategy. My suggestions is, if you really want to choose a long term investment, stick with those coins that already established a good fundamental in terms of supporting their price levels. If you want some "shortcut" to earn then you will need to risks money by doing day trades especially with the new coins around. It will take lots of research but worth it when executed properly. Goodluck.

BCH is much more heavily centralized than Bitcoin, and so is liable to rapid changes by much fewer members than the BTC protocol. This makes it more adaptable (can be a good thing), but less consistent (generally a bad thing, as far as currencies are concerned).

These options aren't ideal to put up that $1000 investment of OP which I can really say that cloud mining wont really be profitable nowadays no matter how big is your capital since difficulty do rise up overtime. Trading bots? Arent enough if you don't know how to put settings on it because these are just tool not totally the ones who are making money directly into your pocket. Investing on casino is also a good possible option but expect returns would be less for a long period of time.

Majority of the % of your portfolio should hold the btc coin and then other some good altcoin . I do believe in ETH coin as well. But problem is that this altcoin in terms of value are not growing much and thus your money get struck . For long term yes this may rise and hoping that will have a good value in future like btc.

1000 dollars is not a big budget. However, I think it is suitable for a newbie like you. Now, with this fund, you can choose Digibyte, Stellar and Siacoin to invest.

From what I've been hearing, it seems like cloud mining and casual mining in general just doesn't make sense anymore and isn't profitable. Plus, as you mentioned in your reply, there are so many scams that have a facade of a cloud mining site, so OP would really need to be careful with that.

I think offering loan services on this forum would be a great way to grow whatever you currently have op. You should check out the loans and lending section here.

This area is up for grabs! PM me if you're interested.

In a portfolio a high budget means more diversified investment with a wide range of currencies in it. But it doesn't mean that small with a small budget we can't make a good portfolio. In fact there are people who have impressive portfolio in a small budget.
For portfolio collection you have to choose the currencies by your own. You can look for the martketcap of various currencies and can pick them. Also you can add potential ICO'S to your portfolio for a long-term.

To minimize the risk, I think you have divide that amount of money in to minimum 2 category of investment,But minimum  $500 should be for Bitcoin and others $500 for make investment in ICO or other good potential altcoin/token that just entered the market. And for  that $500 more, maybe by this good portfolio : $250 for potential ICO like Bitclave, INS, Hacken, Livetree Adept, Indahash.  And other $250 for altcoin just entered the market that has good and strong fundamental, like POWR and GVT.
*This my opinion not investment advice, always do you own research before make investment.

I get ~0.25% daily and the ghs price on the market is still around the price I bought it at recently so that's a good profit on my 1BTC. That being said, if it's your hard-earned money, don't put anything in if you cannot accept the loss.
