I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but while their service was undergoing "upgrades" there was a huge discepency between pricing on Bittrex and HitBTC.  Does anyone think HitBTC was moving all of this BTG over themselves to profit off of it, before moving it back and finishing their "upgrades?"

I'm not one for speculation myself since it's pointless and does little to affect reputation (even if it does, when has a bad reputation harmed any of these exchanges, right?).

However, don't put it above exchanges to leverage on market discrepancies. They probably have agreements with each other, off the books, of course, and surely do their share of market manipulation. Remember, all these numbers on exchanges are just that. Numbers. Who's to say what is actually traded except promises?
