Perhaps in the minds of those who know nothing about semiconductor manufacture. However, the Real World being far more complex as always proves different and gains vs node size reduction began rapidly dropping off around the 28-22nm mark.

Does this mean that we won't see any significant efficiense improvement in near years??  Node size reduction is very difficult process, and may cost billions of dollars for the manufacture - like Intel.  If 10nm makes so little improvement over 16nm, than to make big improvement, they should launch let's say 5nm - which is impossible in near term.

That doesn't change that these are more efficient than the S9 so will give you more BTC for every $ you spend on electricity. That's the only thing that should matter.

You realize that the efficiency is so close that your arguement is null and void right?

No, it doesn't make it null and void. Efficiency is the most important factor in determining the profitability of the miner.

At 10 cent power you are talking about a $5/month difference in power for similar hashrates and the Dragon costs literally twice as much to purchase new.

It would take the miner running 10 years for things to even out.

It will be interesting to see how competitive Halong can be with pricing going forward. With network difficulty and BTC price both being beyond prediction you can't make any accurate forecasts about how long it will take to recover capital expenditure.

You need to look at the big picture and not at one small data point.

That's funny as that was the point I was making to you:-

That being said its a big load of crap that you cant run these at advertised specs with advertised hash rate.

Long term reliability could make the t1 better even if they don’t break often.

Of 22 s9 purchased from batch 1 up to last dec2017 I had about 10 boards and two controllers die.

Time wise that would be just under 22 months time.

So in 22 months if no boards die the t1 looks better.

Btw the t1 now has caused bitmain to offer more firmware control over your gear.

That came after ck did firmware here giving three speed settings and I mentioned that made the t1 a viable choice over the s9.

So all owners of s9s now have access to better firmware.  As of April of 2018.

I am sure those that use it won’t be donating to ck or Halong but fact is that is what happened.

I've been trying to contact Halong since I'm in Asia, so far no luck with the emails............ Anyone got a contact I could use?

I am aware of only 2 ways to get in touch with Halong Mining.

(1) through its "Contact Us" web form: https://halongmining.com/contact-us/

(2) through its Telegram Group, which often receives postings by Halong's apparent principal, the pseudonymous Drak: https://t.me/dragonmint

The company is otherwise operating in complete anonymity to my knowledge.

My dragons, running for 3 days now after the last firmware upgrade and set to 'performance':

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/180509/wmw6qb2c.jpg

One (dragon5) has a broken hashboard (only 2 out of 3 running)

However, not as expected..

Hi,

you can expect even worse future. I bought 5 T1 and after 3 weeks of running them 4 dashboards are gone. In fact every week I have an issue and shipping wrong parts back. I was happy we have competitor of Bitmain....but it is long way for Halong to get there.

Be careful guys. These are very first parts are bad quality hash boards. At least in my case.

Jaro

Lucky if you have them replaced already.

As you see in my picture, there are now 2 miners running only with 2 hashboards at ~10 th/s.

So one more hashboard is dead.

Anyone knows if there is vacation or smth in china/japan? I dont receive answers anymore since 5 days Sad

that is the biggest knock against them.
and the question remains  why won't  more pools add it the software is not that hard.
I know the answer to that for most major pools.

My take is that being responsible pool operators, they need access to least one T1 - several would be ideal - to run the changes on Testnet before even thinking about applying the AB changes to a live pool. Have you offered one of your T1's for the operator of mmpool or other small pool to bang on? It certainly seems that Halong will not do it.

As Slush in 2016 and another pool last year found out, code needs to be tested hard by tossing a myrid of possible f*ups to the inputs using Testnet vs going live with apparently little to no testing of their code. Helps eliminate embarrassing 'oops. Sorry about that...' moments. Slush may have gotten away with losing a few hundred BTC in rewards because of a coding error that as a result lost several blocks with few screaming about it but that is NOT a good thing. We are after all talking about risking the pool properly generating BTC income and 'oops' is not allowed.

At least 1 user here will be providing Kano with access to a Dragonmint T1-- as soon as the person gets it from Halong that is. After Kano has a chance to implement and properly test the changes then Kano pool will support AB. As for the major pools -- ja, for obvious reasons I don't see them jumping on the AB bandwagon soon...

For those keeping track of the latest firmware updates, I've pushed a slightly improved version which is designed to more reliably keep all chains up and running, and to fix a small timekeeping bug which sometimes showed the miners up for 100 days. The version number is t1_20180511_034450, just check for an update from the interface.

It is not replaced yet. But Myrig is responding very well in regards to replacement. Will see what time is need to receive replace shipment.

BTW: I have another 2 dead hashboards since yesterday. I will be good in packing and shipping hashboards very soon.

Everything was messed up after this firmware update.
I had to run autotune again

Edit: this firmware is bugged as hell. Even after autotune if you reboot, temps are going crazy 2cards at 79c while the other one at 50. fan at 100% in efficienty
had to rollback to 0506 to get back to normal

I pushed a more conservative firmware update this time with a slightly lower speed for balanced mode due to complaints of high power and fanspeeds from those entering summer, and more tightly controlled temperatures for optimal minimum fanspeed.

It should be version t1_20180512_024327 if you check for an update from the web interface.

seems to run fine now, i'll check on it in a few hours

@BlockTangle

By the way, do you realise the fact that the Halong/MyRig 1600W power supply units do not work in the 110-120V mains voltage systems ?

Hagg, per the HM website in the FAQ's:

"Q. I have 110v supply at home, is this suitable?
A. Not really. Miners operate more efficiently with 220-240v and mining farms step down their own electricity supply to 220-240v. If you have 110v supply you will either need to purchase a 1600W PSU rated for 110v from an alternative source, use two of our 1600W PSUs for each miner, or arrange the voltage supply."

I bought 2 PSUs per miner (5 miners and 10 PSUs). Would 2 HM PSUs per miner do the trick?

Thank you! Smiley

If they say that two Halong Mining psus will do the job, then it should be ok.

I haven't seen the technical specifications label for the Halong Mining psu.
