FutureBit Moonlander 2 USB Hubs Thread

Figured I'd start a thread for these.

First, the best resource possible is Sidehack's USB hub thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1779423.0

Things to look for on the hub:

• Provides at least 1amp per port
• Has a way to hook up to your Pi/PC (this is sometimes described as  "Sync" not just charging)

Here's my learnings from playing with those that also apply to the Moonlander.

Budget Hub for 3 or fewer Moonlanders

Pluggable USB hub - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L2LK164

These have 3 voltage regulators that are shared by the ports next to each other, so you can only run at max 3 of the Moonlanders. Put one on port 1, port 4, and port 7.

Hub for 3-10 Moonlanders

Sipolar 20 Port - https://www.amazon.com/Sipolar-Industrial-Charger-Refurbish-Cellphone/dp/B01KPOEX9O

This hub can power up to 12 moonlanders, due to the size of the fan. It has two USB 3 ports to connect to your PC or Pi, so be sure you plan that. Some people reported having trouble getting the Pi to recognize it, but if you have this issue, plugging the USB3 from this into a cheap USB hub (like an Amazon basics 4 port USB2 hub) and then that into the Pi works.

I can thank you for profiting on people that dont know better by selling them equipment that has a coin flip chance at best of ever reaching break even? If people want one or two of them so they can pat themselves on the back and say that they are mining thats fine.

I was referring to people that were buying large quantities and trying to run them with a really expensive hub like the one I quoted when making my post. If you are going to invest that kind of money there is literally no reason to spend all that money versus buying a high end miner.

I was referring to people that were buying large quantities and trying to run them with a really expensive hub like the one I quoted when making my post. If you are going to invest that kind of money there is literally no reason to spend all that money versus buying a high end miner.

And those are not the people buying these, at least not the vast majority. Guess I was an idiot for mining 500 LTC with my junk GPUs for a LOSS in 2012 right

Same goes for the people that bought my original Moonlander that were making .25 LTC a month (under $1 USD in 2016).

Oh wait yea those people made about 10x profit since the original.

For your info, I’m barely making ANY profit from pre-orders on these. I’m more interested in getting the largest number of people possible with the least cost into LTC, and funding Litecoin’s development at the same time.

Once again you have no idea what your talking about, so just go back to mining and selling your LTC the second you get a chance, and be glad there is a market for you to sell (most of your buyers are probably the idiots that bought my original Moonlander

I like the sticks  and I mine a lot.

I have 3 monster hubs from back in the day  and could run 30-45 of these sticks  If I choose to.


I run  4 compac sticks  40gh  on a pool that  pays a large bonus reward if i hit a block  and pays some coine if someone else hits the block.


there are a few ltc pools that do this. so I will have a pc that

mines with  compacs from sidehack

1 of these sticks from jstefanop

1 cpu for monero
1 gpu for monero
1  tiny little x11 miner



the rig won't earn a lot

but  all the coins will be set it and forget it.


in no way  do I expect or care  about profit  for this setup.

I make my money with  25,000 in gpus
and 15,000 in sha256 miners.

but the sticks  are pretty much and endless lotto for me and no power cost due to the earnings the one gpu does.

When I get a chance I will demo the ring mining all of  this .

got 2 of these a few days ago and they are great. Great build with indicator lights plenty of heat sink and even a small tiny fan. These are great for anyone looking to learn about mining altcoins.

The Sipolar A223 will definitely work. I have 12 moonlanders running on that. Not sure about the A200.

The A223 has 5V 40A, so 2amp per port. Don't think any of these will reliably run more than 2 miners.

You can only connect 3 moonlanders to the pluggables. They have 3 voltage regulators that limit the amperage to the ports driven by each one. 7 won't work.

Each set of ports can get up 1.5amp, I believe.

Port 1,2
Port 3 ,4
Port 5,6,7

Its been a while since I read the Sidehack USB thread linked in the first post, where they did this testing

My point still stands though, the manufactuer says:

and if their product doesn't do that then this is bang out order.  I've sent plugable an email and asked this question about both the USB2 and USB3 7 port versions of their hubs (and also sent them a link to this thread / discussion).

I saw/ordered one of the USB 3 7 port versions on ebay going cheap - at least i'll be able to get 3x working for now
