We should just take a breather here, and consider Yasujiro Ozu, a director loved by nearly all who watch his films. It's very nearly a transcendental experience one has upon watching two or three of his films. At that point, something happens, everything clicks, and you realize you've discovered a new film grammar, a new way of watching film, and an extraordinarily beautiful set of films to look forward to. Great movie! I'd put it on my personal 'want to watch' list, but I've already seen it! However, I have two other films by Ang Lee listed here. And I still have to add at least one (or more) by him yet.

Perhaps another break from the lists would be in order. Lots of films listed here are classics featuring the wonderful Hideko Takamine and Setsuko Hara. Here's a fan made tribute to both of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0O6tdZucyVcYou all think that you wouldn't like these movies. But until you try, you don't know. Most people become enthralled.

I would just love to see Hiroshi Teshigahara's The Ruined Map, a.k.a The Man Without a Map, made in 1968. It was the last collaboration between the legendary trio, Teshigahara as director, novelist Kôbô Abe as writer, and music by Tôru Takemitsu. Their other three masterpieces being Pitfall, Woman in the Dunes, and The Face of Another. Unfortunately, I don't think it's available anywhere with English subtitles. How wonderful it would if Criterion would pick it up. Below is a fan made Criterion Three Reasons. Love the music and cinematography. In fact, it appears that notable cinematographer Christopher Doyle might have been inspired by the work here. Has anyone actually done some sampling of the list on the first page? There is some potentially amazing and beautiful stuff in there.

Let's try again. Which links have you checked out? Which ones looked interesting or not interesting? If you haven't checked any out, try it. You might find something interesting.

Wow, you want to watch a lot of movies. I wouldn't be able to find the time of day to watch all of them. Good luck with that. I can't contribute because I have watched all I want to watch at the moment in time.

Really? I've only listed 225 films, plus the one in my last post which hasn't made it into the list yet. I maintain another list elsewhere which has about 500 films on it. It really isn't a lot, if you think about it. Sure, the list will grow, but you have to understand I'm drawing mostly from the past, which is a catalog that doesn't grow. Furthermore, it takes a lot for a movie to make the list. So you have to understand, it's not this month's list, or this year's list. It's simply the list. If one watched one movie a week, the list you see so far would be done in about four years.

I have discovered a loving tribute to the films of Mikio Naruse, in this montage of shots which seem to explore just one type of composition that you might find in his films. So many of them I have not yet seen yet, so I think it apropos to post the video here in this thread. Such great sublimity here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uudNdgYhQzA

What guys? You're actually looking at a partial listing of my personal list. A few others, such as yourself, mentioned maybe 3 films. This isn't a list of films by committee. Everyone has their own list. Thank you for providing your own list.

I went through the list last night and most of them I've never heard of! It's a good thing though, as I'm always looking for something to watch before bed. Might have my work cut out for me to get through your list though..
