I've got almost all of the details for my new rig sorted out except for the motherboard because I have a question regarding it. My understanding is that 1x (pci) means it has one data lane and 16x means it has 16 data lanes. I am using 7950 cards, FYI. When purchasing a motherboard, does it matter if the 7950 cards are attached to a 1x or a 16x pci? What I really mean is: will a 7950 card hooked up to a 1x pci have a lower hash rate than one hooked up to a 16x pci? Or does it not matter which type of pci the cards are attached to?

Thanks

Biggest difference will be on risers if u need powered or not.  Also its kind of nice to have a longer one but not a necessary thing.

If you mine with up to 3 GPUs, you don't need to have a powered risers. Also, if risers are 19cm - they are long enough for most rigs.
