Hello, I recently received some report that there are some ICO project that spamming via PM in each user to join on their ICO. This is against to the forum rules. IMO they are using spreadsheet of bounty campaign to get the list of emails and bitcointalk account. I want to give awareness to the Mods that there are ongoing spam PM right now.

Some group are selling this kind of service to the developer of the project.

For those who are receiving spam PM. Kindly report here and provide some screenshots.

Best way is to report them which you can do by clicking "Report to Admin" against that PM.

Making a thread with reports of spam of this kind is good but still I find clicking report against the PM better. Possible that some of mods don't watch this section so will be unaware of this thread. On top of that everytime a thread is open we open it to users posting insignificant posts.

Also I think thread should go into Meta as we are asking for mod/admins action and not DT actions on this

There are too many spam messages sent to me via bct forum/email these days and I've reported the bitcointalk messages. Do such users get banned or only negative trust? I've received gunbot spam message and a user promoting bitclave bounty campaign too. There are users who are creating new accounts specially for spamming. Difficult to track their identity.

Thanks for feedback. But what I want is to give a feedback for those project that availing this kind of service. Reporting the user that made the PM is not enough because they can used other instead. And I believe that there is a huge behind this that generating profit for this kind of service.

How to move this in META btw?? Roll Eyes Tongue

Disagree. It takes very long for them to handle these cases, if ever. Worst case: You report it, wait for feedback, and never do. I mean, if the admin isn't sure then at least he could notify you so that you can try investigating.

Also I think thread should go into Meta as we are asking for mod/admins action and not DT actions on this
It is much easier for the administration to connect these accounts, but DT members can also act on this. However, I do agree with the move to Meta.

I do agree with OP. Making it punishable for all sides would quickly kill that market.

Using my ref. code? I have not authorized someone to do this, nor is there an affiliate program from me for getting others to buy using my code. Therefore, I find that claim strange. Does anyone have a link to the user who is sending this?

Report as advertising SPAM.

Probably a hacked/sold account since the user has a low UID and hasn't even passed 300+ activity.

Hmm. They did tried it in April Fool badges.

just randomly assigned then?

I also received some messages to join an ICO or that I am a participant of air drop, but I just ignore them. Yes, they are going against the forum's rules and they will be punished sooner or later. It is actually how they make money - someone ignored, someone participated; if it passed - it passed.

That is very strange. I don't know who that user is, and they don't get any benefit from promoting GunBot using my code unless of course they are trying to scam to begin with.

Just a heads up. There are some group of people that offering to sell a list of emails and BCTalk account that interested in crypto. And I think this kind of PM is a paid service and not tend to scam because they didn't provide any suspicious link but just a pure promotion of the project. Somebody using this kind of spam service to earn profits. And this can be consider as AdFraud.

Strange indeed..
Just about anyone could grab up an account and start dropping your ref links and/or addresses to set you up for who knows what.. Make it look like your alt and do whatever..
The coinspiracy could run deep..

Oh yeah and I get these messages once every so often also..
I feel like I don't want to tag them if it's a legit ICO but I don't much give a fork about ICOs so I don't bother to read on them, much less beyond the first couple of sentences of the PM in question..
I think I tried replying to a couple of them to entertain myself but they never messaged me back..

Your referral code is GrumpyKitty, the one I got in PM is GrumpyKitten.

Possibly a scam. Tagged.
He is phishing bitcointalk passwords.

One of three links from PM is leading to video youtube.com/watch?v=Wj9ojW_zBPI in description is link to "official" gunbot thread  bit.ly/2ALSpMo, short link leads to bltcolntalk.org/index.phptopic=3D1715214.0/#/ which is phishing site.
