It depends on how far you can manage the risk and emotion. I think holding not too need risk management, just manage your emotion when price up or down, and I guess overall is up. Trading altcoin need more skill to manage risk and for small amount you will be confused to face the fee. Holding maybe is the long-term trading activity.

Under what circumstances is trading preferred over holding?
Btc reaching 10k$ way before new year is a big shock, your opinions would be very helpful.

It depends on which coin will you applied whether trading or holding regardless of the current bitcoin price.

Bitcoin obviously should treat as long term investment. The wise thing to do for an average bitcoiner is to hold it while at the same time increasing the quantity over time. Holding can't increase the quantity, only the value, that's why make way to increase your stach. For other altcoins out there, there are coins which we can classified as good for long term holding or short term. In those coins that we will considered as short term, then we will do regular trades here.

It depends upon your ability, experience and efforts. If you think that you are good at trading and can earn more profits from trading than holding,if you have a done trading before, if  you have enough time to spend on it daily and if you are ready to take risk of losing your money then only you should prefer trading over holding.

People prefer to trade when they are seeing some losses with the coin that they are holding. But I doubt it that they will prefer holding when under that circumstance as everyone always prefer to have some coins on hold.
And at this time, many will still love to hold because of the price of bitcoin is getting high and also taking up a look on the altcoins that are down today.

Oh jeez it’s not shock at all! The crypto currencies are supposed to be like this if they are made decentralised in first place.

Trading should be on going operation and regardless of holding stuff. Rather holding can be made late of trading where if you notice any coin going off the charts then you could just sell it over exchanger by trading it to the highest bidder pair. That’s importsmt to follow and can get us money\profits.

That’s why many investors keep the good portfolio handy so that if any coin is getting recognised then it can be sold immediately at high rates. :-)

Trading is good only if you have some chances to make good money, not for just making 0.001 a day just by trading bitcoin/ethereum, because it is insane.

And you have to deposit a lot of funds in an exchange to make good money, that is why i try to stay away from altcoin trading, you would never know if those exchanges are going to close at anytime, just like it happened on the past.

I really prefer holding, it is much more safe than just being trading, and just look at the charts, holding has been more profitable than trading because all the altcoins are down in their bitcoin price.

it means that probably if you did not trade during the last three months, now you could have at least 60% of your initial investment.

There is no good reason at all to hold anything if it´s going down. Sell and buy later.

You still have to learn more, if you really believe on bitcoin then you will surely Hold it. Remember that if sell your bitcoin you can never but bitcoin at the same price just like you did in the past. For me I will Hold bitcoin because I want to become more secure in the future.

I prefer holding Bitcoin and some strong fundamental altcoin becasue this is more safe actually than day trade. With good money management and good portfolio will be increasing the profit, By portfolio 70% Bitcoin and other 30% altcoin [ ETH, DASH, LTC ,WAVES) will be good idea to maximize profit and to minimize risk.

You can't always predict the price when it will go down or high because these crypto coins are normally very volatile so you can't accurately buy at low always. So if you think that your coins good then just hold them not to worry about short-term corrections. Because when BTC prices were around 8500 many people were expecting a correction and they are still holding with USD for the correction to buy at lower but it didn't happen until now.

To be honest, both method are quite useful because holding is a safest way and trading might be risky but then it is quite fun due to its capabilities that it will double your money. Bitcoin value reached $9700 last time and it is not impossible that it will reach $10,000 this end of the year or this coming year 2018.

Good one Better up saving it for a long time at least two months or so to see the difference of the value and trade it afterwards and why would you compare this two OP if you can do both or use it properly with a little bit of strategy.

When you are trading alts with bitcoin as base currency then it would be best if you do it when bitcoin is not having a major move like having a bull run or having a correction because whenever it do so, alts are going down as well but you can protect yourself from losing when you have proper risk management like having stop loss and not being greedy when you are already in profit.

Holding would be best when you don't have the skill and time to do so in trading. There are many people who will immediately trade without even knowing the basics in trading like knowing what is support and resistance and what is trend or consolidation. Some are just following the hype so there is a tendency to panic sell when there is fear, uncertainty and doubt. In this case, there is a tendency to lose more than to earn so the better choice would be holding especially now that bitcoin is having a bull run so alts are in the red.

If for me, I prefer holding than trading. That's because I think trading is a risky job, we can profit and we can lose at any time. I'm the kind of person who does not like such erratic work. I prefer to do monotonous work but it can make sure and fixed money. But that does not mean I'm against trading and do not like it. I will support everyone who do trading, as long as you know how and it can make you profit a lot. However, this is only my opinion. Holding Bitcoin is enough for me.

As for Bitcoins is concerned holding is the best option because each day its pricing is rising as demand from the people are increasing so when You are not much in need of money just hold your bitcoins for almost more than a month (as people these days are doing in the same way) inreturn of which you will get a big profit.

The big thing to me is that trading will incur fees with each trade. I wish there was a no fee exchange kinda like Robinhood for stocks. The only one out there right now is called CoinHood, but they don't offer a lot of the coins that I'm interested in trading. I'm still trying to trade a little bit because if done right, trading will make you a lot more money than simply holding, but that requires so much more research and time though.

Either way, the crypto world is a very hot topic right now and lots of money can be made whether you trade or HODL.

Trading is preferred if you actually have skills and discipline to trade. Trading is riskier than holding, you can earn a lot but of course you can lose a lot as well.

I personally do both i have coins for trading and coins in my wallet that i will not use no matter what happen.

In this bitcoin moment price surge to $10k it will reach more. Yes if you are not in need money the best at this point is to hold your bitcoin. If we can notice price will reach more than of what we expected for, so holding is a good choice in this season.

Although bitcoin technical analysis shows bitcoin should have some correction the price didn't say so, well we know trading bitcoin is a mind game we cant predict what bitcoin wants. The only thing we need to do is putting a stop loss order in case bitcoin have some pullback so that we can minimize our losses.
